Intensive care unit my reason for studying this career is because knowing that you can help the patients. Many people out there are really sick. ICU (Intensive Care Unit), is a site in the hospital that specializes in providing the necessary care for people with life-threatening illnesses or injuries. The personnel there are all very committed to their job and are there to answer any questions asked by fellow health care workers, patient’s family, and students such as me. Patients there are under great care provided by the nurses, technologists, and attendants, among others. They attempt to make the patient’s stay as comfortable as possible and provide them with the best health options they can. To care for the patients nurses often use thermometers to check temperatures, monitors to examine the patient’s vital signs, and medicine administration to manage pain and prevent infections or clots. Much of the technology used in the ICU included computers, monitors for vital signs, ventilators to assist breathing, and the scales on the bed used to weight the patients who often cannot be moved too far from the bed.
