Discussion Question 1

Read the following article:

A Computer-Based Education Intervention to Enhance Surrogates’ Informed Consent for Genomics Research

Ethics guidelines now require that individuals give informed consent to participate in research.Existing ethical guidelines do not help us decide how to seek consent and have allowed managerial experimentation to remain unchecked.

Based on your understanding of the topic and the article, answer the following question:Ethics in Healthcare Assignment Essay

Do you think that alternative forms of community consent should be actively pursued? Why or why not? How would you feel if your medical records were examined and included in research without your consent based on an illness in the past?

You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.
Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.Ethics in Healthcare Assignment Essay

Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.

The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.

BHS365 – Ethics in the Healthcare Setting (Mod 1 – SLP)
Charles Spach
November 3rd, 2012 Abstract
Session Long Project:
The goal of the Session Long Project is to identify and evaluate the ethical principles used in resolving ethical dilemmas, and to apply the principles to specific ethical issues that may have professional, sociological, economic, legal, and possible political implications.
Tasks for module 1:
1. Identify and explain two ethical issues/dilemmas in healthcare as identified and discussed in the scholarly literature Ethics in Healthcare Assignment Essay

When the nursing ratio is low in comparison to a higher patient ratio the odds of insufficient care is increased while the patient’s safety is decreased or otherwise compromised. Inappropriate staffing of nurses is one of the number one concerns amongst nurses nationwide and when not appropriately staffed the risk of patient death is unfortunately increased.
Several ethical principles may be in jeopardy when caring for patients if the staffing of nurses is low. Understaffed nurses within the hospital setting may have an influence on beneficence; although nurses may want to do what’s best for their patients, they may be limited or too overwhelmed to get to every patient or to meet the best interests of each patient under their supervision. Another ethical principle that may not be met due to understaffing would be distributed justice; fair distribution of medical care would be limited if the nursing staff was spread too thin to be able to deliver a fair amount of care to each of their patients.Ethics in Healthcare Assignment Essay
Health care is a very diverse field with so many specialties, but one common area all health care industries have in common is ethics. What ethics means is, following a set of guidelines and principles set by organizations that relate to work duties, patients, and professional behavior. Decisions made each day in health care by physicians, nurses, other medical staff, and professionals affect real people, and can differentiate between life and death. The quality of the patient’s care, along with making treatments easier for patients all require ethical principles. Ethical principles are followed in many different areas of the health care industry. However, for the purpose of this paper we will focus primarily on the principle for ethical guidelines, ethical effects on patients, ethics in nursing, HIPAA, and obtaining an ethical health care system. Ethical guidelines are somewhat different for each health care organization, however they are there to accomplish them same, which is to make patients your first priority, and to obey by the duties you have as a health care professional towards the patient. These guidelines are usually made by governmental bodies and medical associations, such as the Unites States Agency for Health care Research and Quality (Clinical Guidelines and Recommendations, 2014). Otherwise, local and private health care providers adapt them from other organizations existing good quality guidelines. Clinical practice strategies are thoroughly developed Ethics in Healthcare Assignment Essay
