Mineral & Water Function Assignment

Minerals and water are two essential substances that help human body function on many different levels, support energy, and maintain the correct balance. As known, minerals consist of two major categories – macrominerals and microminerals. Macrominerals include sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and sulfur. Microminerals or trace minerals include elements like zinc, iron, iodine, selenium, manganese, copper, fluoride, chromium, and other important elements known to be essential in very small amounts. As evidence shows, a balance diet usually provides all necessary minerals and right amount of water, thus it is crucially import to remember about healthy food and healthy habits, which help people to improve their effective functioning, maintain the correct life balance, and support their energy level. Mineral & Water Function AssignmentMinerals are an essential foundation for human health and everyday functioning. Two major minerals include calcium and magnesium. Calcium is an essential element for healthy bones, teeth, muscles flexibility, nervous system, blood circulation, immune system, cardiovascular system, and the overall human skeleton system. In order to support the right level of this macromineral it is important to regularly consume milk products, fish, soy milk, tofu, broccoli and other products. Magnesium is another important macromineral that is necessary for effective nerve transmission and making protein, muscle contraction and human immune system. The major products containing magnesium include green vegetables, seeds, seafood, nuts, and chocolate. Microminerals or trace minerals are also essential for human body and organism functioning. Iron is considered to be a micromineral, although the amount needed is somewhat more than for other trace minerals. It is an important micromineral that transmits oxygen in the body and forms hemoglobin in red blood cells and muscles. Iron support immune system, energy, and metabolism in human beings. Products containing iron include red meat, fish, poultry, shellfish, egg yolks, dried fruits, cereals, and iron-enriched bread. Iodine is anther essential microelement found in thyroid hormone, which helps organism regulate growth, development, and metabolism in human beings. To support the right level of iodine in the body people should regularly consume products like iodized salt, seafood, dairy products, and bread.Mineral & Water Function Assignment

Iodine deficiency disorder (IDD) is a serious deficiency condition, which can cause multiple negative consequences for human health and functioning. Element like iodine is an important nutrient in everyday diet. As evidence shows, “IDD constitute the single largest cause of preventable brain damage worldwide leading to learning disabilities and psychomotor impairment.” (Pandav, et al., 2013, p. 418) The symptoms of IDD also include thyroid enlargement, depression, anxiety, emotional instability, slowed brain function, low immune system, low cognitive abilities, poor memory, and slowed metabolism. As statistics shows, “an estimated 350 million people do not consume adequately iodized salt and, therefore, are at risk for IDD.” (Pandav, et al., 2013, p.418) Researchers explain that often it is very difficult to predict iodine deficiency problem and its consequences but it is very easily to prevent the development of iodide deficiency. IDD is best treated by a healthy diet. It is important to include in everyday diet the high iodide products like milk, dried seaweed, baked potatoes, fish, fertilized iodized salt, eggs, and other products. Water is still one of the core vital needs for human beings. As known, all vital organs, systems, and effective body functioning depend on water. Water regulates body temperature, protects body from a number infections and bacteria, positively effects kidneys functioning, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, and finally, “helps dissolve minerals and other nutrients to make them accessible to the body.” (Mayo Clinic, 2017) The general effect of dehydration on the body includes low human performance, inadequate heart functioning, emotional instability, and inappropriate functioning of the overall human organism and its systems.   Mineral & Water Function Assignment
