The job market has multiple options for an RN with a bachelor’s degree. First, RNs can work as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse. RN in this field provides specialized care to patients with various psychiatric conditions. Other job opportunities for RNs include working as a physician’s office nurse, school nurse, nurse case manager, nursing informatics specialist, research nurse, legal consultancy nurse, and diabetes management nurse where they provide care to patients diagnosed with diabetes type 1 Mellitus and diabetes type 11 Mellitus.

Professional Certification and Advanced Degrees

The IOM Future of Nursing Recommendations requires nurse practitioners working in various settings to achieve higher education levels. Consequently, I am planning to further my education as soon as I finish this BSN program, hopefully by the end of 2021, to become a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). Additionally, further learning will enhance my job performance in my role as a nurse in the future. I will use the skills, knowledge, and experience that I will acquire during the program to provide quality and safe care to my patients in various settings. Moreover, the acquired skills will enable me to collaborate and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team members during care delivery, thus improving the quality and efficiency of patient care. High-quality care will, in turn, improve overall clinical outcomes, patient experience, and nurse’s job satisfaction (Hariyati & Safril, 2018).

How does continuing nursing education relate to the competency, attitudes, knowledge, and the ANA Scope and Standards for Practice and Code of Ethics?

Continuing nursing education has an impact on the above aspects. Further education enhances one’s competency, thus enabling a nurse practitioner to maintain integrity while providing quality care services. Additionally, continuing with nursing education enables a nurse practitioner to acquire more knowledge in nursing, which is used to improve the quality-of-care services (Bindon, 2017). The education also changes one’s attitude towards the nursing field, clinical practices, and patients. RNs develop a positive attitude towards these aspects as they continue with their education further. Finally, continuing with education relates to ANA Scope and Standards for Practice and Code of Ethics, which states how professional nurses should practice. In other words, further learning enables a nurse to meet ANA’s expectations and the Standards for Practice and Code of Ethics. Continuing nursing education should be mandatory for all RNs. Nursing is among the most critical fields in the healthcare sector since the nurses spend more time with the patients than other healthcare professionals. Therefore, continuing education will improve the nurse’s knowledge and skills, thus enabling them to provide safe, efficient, and quality care services to their patients (Price & Reichert, 2017). The provision of quality care will improve clinical outcomes resulting in low mortality and hospital readmission rates.
