NSG5002: The Patient, Nurse, Health, and Environment
Theories are derived from conceptual models and are comprised of concepts and propositions. The only concepts that are common to all nursing theories, in some shape or form, are patient, nurse, health, and environment. These are sometimes referred to as the basic metaparadigms of the nursing domain. Discuss how the four metaparadigms effect the patient, nurse, health and environment. Identify two additional concepts that are relevant to your personal practice of nursing, explain how they relate to your practice and why they are important to your practice. (I am an emergency nurse and my practice will be Acute/Emergency Care Nurse Practitioner). NSG5002: The Patient, Nurse, Health, and Environment
Patient
The four Metaparadigms of nursing are dynamic and interdependent. For instance, Patient lives in an environment that determines his/her health status in different ways. However, the patient is the primary recipient of health care intended to cure the disease, reduce injury, and promote health status. According to Nikfarid et al. (2018), a nurse’s role is to perform a comprehensive assessment of patient needs and prioritize them. After that, utilize the patient’s environment to cater to these needs.
Nurse
The nurse has the responsibility of providing care to the sick, preventing illness, and promoting health. Within the environment, the nurse identifies factors that may contribute to ill-health and mitigate their effects (Nikfarid et al., 2018). Additionally utilizes a conducive environment that promotes better health, quick recovery, and minimizes the risk to ill-health to maintain attainable health both for the patient and self.

Health
Health is the state of complete physical, social, and mental well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity (Kalogirou et al., (2020). Human health is a continuum that shifts from illness to wellness. Within this continuum exists the environment with which one exists and impacts in various ways the individual health. As such, a nurse should ensure an environment that promotes wellness. NSG5002: The Patient, Nurse, Health, and Environment
Environment
The environment is human beings’ surroundings and affects their health. The surrounding include circumstances, conditions, and influences which affects people’s behavior. According to Copanitsanou et al. (2017), access to adequate light, warmth, fresh air, cleanliness, and proper diet is essential to promoting health.
Other concepts relevant to Acute/Emergency Care Nursing Practice
Multi-disciplinary approach
The multi-disciplinary approach in acute and emergency care involves inter-professional cooperation to improve patient outcomes. According to Copanitsanou et al. (2017), this concept allows for the provision of specialized care to patients. It also allows for cooperation and integration of evidence-based practice. As such, patients receive comprehensive health care services vital for critically ill patients who usually present at the emergency department. Finally, there is a reduced mortality rate among acute patients.
Ethical consideration
Another significant concept is ethical consideration to which a nurse working in the A&E department should adhere to. Ethical principles in nursing include autonomy, justice, veracity, fidelity, beneficence, maleficence, and integrity (Rosen et al., 2016). These principles are significant in enhancing patient safety and improved health outcomes. NSG5002: The Patient, Nurse, Health, and Environment
