Mr. A Case Study
Explain the specific socioeconomic, spiritual, lifestyle and other cultural factors associated with this patient.
Socioeconomic status looks at an individual’s education, income, occupation, as well as the inequalities within a group of individuals. Many individuals lack health insurance for many reasons. One of these reasons includes, the individual does not have a high enough education to qualify for a high paying job that would include health insurance (Findling et al., 2019). Health Services Research Paper.
It is important that we take the patients spirituality into consideration. Some patients follow a more naturalistic approach to medicine (Ball et al., 2019). Often times they follow beliefs of their culture decent. For example, some cultures don’t believe in taking medications for diseases. They prefer to use natural methods and healers (The Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council, 2004).
This patient believes he won’t get into heaven if he continues in his current lifestyle. This patient also states he does not take drugs, however the patient states he smokes “pot”. Many minority individuals often partake in risky behaviors. Many of these may be culturally acceptable to that individual. Native Americans have higher rates of substance abuse (“SAMHSA,” 2020).

Explain the issues that you would need to be sensitive to when interacting with the patient and why?
Even though this patient is a Native American, we cannot assume he conforms to the same beliefs. It is important to find out his beliefs and what he wishes to accomplish for his healthcare. Mental health can be a sensitive subject to a lot of patients. Many patients, especially men, are embarrassed to discuss mental health due to the stigma that follows mental health. Men have a higher suicide rate because of this. It will be very beneficial to build a trusting relationship with this patient, and all patients, in order to provide the best patient care.
Provide five targeted questions you would ask the patient to build his health history and to assess his health risks
