Stroke Assignment Discussion
Discuss characteristic findings for a stroke and how it affects the lives of patients and their families. Discuss the nurse’s role in supporting the patient’s psychological and emotional needs. Provide an example.
Stroke is one of the key causes of long-term disability and mortality. It is a neurological disorder that affects the blood flow channels and the brain that induces cell death which activates interruption (Wall, 2018). This results in the reduced ability of those parts of the body that rely on the affected region. There are two main forms of stroke or cerebral vascular disease, hemorrhagic, caused by bleeding and ischemia due to loss of blood flow. Knowing the signs and side effects of a stroke are essential to helping someone who might have a stroke. Rapidly seeking treatment will help to reduce the level of disability and mortality. The nurse will give a lot of assistance to a patient with either of these conditions. Most people with stroke recover from stress due to changes in their anatomy. Nurses may provide therapeutic help through cognitive behavior therapy, which is short-term psychotherapy to alter people’s thought habits or how they behave due to their failure (Ojaghihaghighi, et al, 2017). It helps to improve the way people think, feel, and respond so that their emotions and behaviors can be more constructive. Anti-anxiety medications such as diazepam may be used. They should as well motivate the patient to express themselves and their concerns if they are still able to interact.

The nurse may provide psychological help to deter the patient from being depressed. Embracing their distress and self-esteem loss is important and could enable a nurse to refer the patient to a psychiatrist. An example of this is a case in which a patient experiences frustration, denial, negotiating and other symptoms such as anxiety, and the nurse can understand that they are natural and encourage them to go through the mourning process, sometimes offering their help wherever they can (Clare, 2018).Stroke Assignment Discussion
