Week 6: Discussion Question 1 – Metaparadigm of Nursing

Points: 30 | Due Date: Week 6, Day 3 & 7 | CLO: 1 | Grade Category: Discussions Discussion Prompt Link the theory you developed in Weeks 2 and 5 with the Metaparadigm of Nursing. Each of the elements of the Metaparadigm should be represented in your theory. Revise your theory if necessary to include each of the components of the Metaparadigm. Expectations

The nursing metaparadigm comprises of four major concepts like person, health, environment and nursing. This theory promotes wellbeing, prevents sickness, improves safety and enables the management of disability and death that correlating legal/ethical, interpersonal, methodological, and cognitive skills and abilities (Usama, 2018). The nursing functions in this framework or theory entail education, care, treatment, and therapy management to foster interpersonal interactions as the basis of the role of nursing in the continuum of health care. The aim of this nursing practice is to support people, households, communities and groups of individuals (Usama, 2018).  Week 6: Discussion Question 1 – Metaparadigm of Nursing.

Focusing on my theory of motivation in traumatic brain injured patients at Neuro ICU; the metaparadigm aspect in nursing linked to my personal theory is clearly evident. The socio-cultural focus on the elements that enhance prevention of cerebral distress and shivering in traumatic brain injured Neuro ICU patients recognized the nurse as having primary duty to offer the proper health services.  As we team up together with these patients, their families and other healthcare providers, we ensure that these patients remain motivated by assessing, designing and administering the nursing services they receive, tracking their physical and mental health, and coordinating and integrating patient care during rehabilitation process.

During this process of health, we encourage the monitoring of patients’ motivation using various patient-related measurements like Motivation for Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation Questionnaire (MOT-Q) and Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust Motivation Questionnaire-Self (BMQ-S) to evaluate both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation (Kusec et al., 2019). After the rehabilitation procedures the nurse help to restore health by helping  to reduce shivering and cerebral distress  using psychological support, as well as providing education on the proper ways in which the patients can stay motivated. In connection with environment in nursing paradigm, we have created a familiar setting of professionalism, safety and trust, avoiding delays in rehabilitation procedures by reducing admission and transport timelines. During healthcare services the ICU neuro intensivists provide safety and support for patient and families from the admission to the patient’s discharge (Dyess & Boykin, 2016).

Conclusively,  the metaparadigm in nursing in connection to my personal theory is that my theory also centers on motivating patients who are the beneficiaries in care, patient health , the environment and nursing health promotion, preventing cerebral distress and shivering, restoring health and promoting the dealing with traumatic brain injury following medical assistance.
