The need for Americans to enjoy optimal health both as individuals and as a population requires a high-quality delivery system of health care services that will be efficiently and effectively coordinated in a strong health system (Crowell & Boynton, 2020). The health care sector has the role of ensuring a nation is healthy. Therefore, all health care institutions, public and private purchasers, and professional groups have a purpose of always reducing the burden of disability, illness, and injury and improve the health as well as the functioning of Americans (Crowell & Boynton, 2020). The new reforms on United States healthcare are focussed on increasing quality and rewarding value rather than volume. During Obama’s era, a statement issued by the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) stated that Obama’s secretary is focused on achieving a healthcare system that will deliver quality care and will spend the funds channeled to health in a smarter to ensure Americans remain healthy. There have been considerable efforts both in the public and private sectors to transform and restructure how the U.S healthcare system offers and pays for care. however, more effort is required (Pandya et al., 2020). Reform and restructuring involve changing care delivery as well as payment incentives while stimulating aiming to sustain delivery system changes. The delivery system reforms have previously been categorized into three general categories namely medical homes, accountable care organizations, and bundled payments.
These reforms indicate promising trends however, they are models that need to be improved, developed, and evaluated continually (Crowell & Boynton, 2020). A new reform or adoption in the healthcare delivery system is Electronic Health Record (EHR) as well as the development of patient –owned medical records are essential for healthcare providers to manage their patients better across various sites of care including specialty clinics as well as primary care. this development of exchange of health information can offer more macro-level information for population management for example tracking readmissions in hospitals in various health systems. Essentially, data is catalytic to improvement including patient-level data in costs, processes, and outcomes of the care provided. Further, integrating this information and data in healthcare can help engage patients particularly in decision-making thus helping address a challenge that is present in the current delivery models. The Electronic health records offer many advantages for nurses such as immediate access to the patient’s records including the medical history as well as the documentation of clinical care data, medication reminders, and prevention of drug interactions.
Quality measures have tremendous value patient and healthcare outcomes and offer incentives that improve and increase the quality of care to a greater level (Pandya et al., 2020). Ideally, quality care measures give a general guideline of how clinicians can use in many cases and these measures usually permit the providers to take into consideration the concerns for personal cases. It is important to note that quality care measure only offers general goals but does not provide or guide therapy (Pandya et al., 2020). Health Care Delivery Models and Nursing Practice Essay. Therefore, all groups that issue nuanced treatment guidelines should be regarded as separate from quality care measures. Quality measures play a significant role in healthcare and have an important place in particularly guiding therapy. Consequently, pay for performance also improves patient outcomes since it has measurement scales that are used to assess the performance of activities that have proven to generate positive health outcomes for patients (Pandya et al., 2020). Also, it encourages nurses to always report quality standards and the public is allowed to have access to high-quality data concerning the performance of their providers. Therefore, adoption or integration of this system normally has a direct link between cost and quality.
Strong leadership is important for the vision of the health care system to be realized (Crowell & Boynton, 2020). Although most nurses do not start their careers envisioning being leaders, this profession requires transformative leaders to serve as full partners alongside other health professionals and be held accountable for their decisions and contributions to quality delivery of healthcare which working together with other health professions. Since challenges arise every day that do not have a structured solution, it is necessary to have leaders who will not only give directions but will work collaboratively with others as full partners (Crowell & Boynton, 2020). This collaborative leadership style is always associated with patient outcomes, less staff turnover, and reduced medical errors. Further, it minimizes workplace bullying as well as disruptive behavior which is a challenge in the field of healthcare.

In the next five years, the healthcare system will adopt artificial intelligence (AI)and machine learning as a way of responding to the current and predicted healthcare concerns. for instance, hospitals can adopt the use of robot doctors, virtual nursing assistants, dentists as well as voice to text transcriptions (Gamble, 2020). Further, AI can be used to detect diseases and analyze a patient’s data obtained from the Electronic Health Record (EHR) to help diagnose the health problem and create ways to treat it. Secondly, health tracking apps are an emerging trend that can be beneficial to improving healthcare outcomes since it can be used to track blood pressure, the number of steps taken with accuracy, sleep period, and heart rate (Gamble, 2020). Besides, they can allow someone to see the data in a readable form. Health Care Delivery Models and Nursing Practice Essay.
