Dissemination Of EBP

Dissemination in evidence-based practice refers to the targeted distribution of information, education, and relevant, innovative data to improve patient care and outcomes. The primary goal of dissemination is to reach the intended audience with knowledge and evidence-based interventions. For dissemination to be successful, the intended audience must be involved and open to change. Implementation refers to the adoption and integration of EBPs. Both dissemination and implementation are most effective when they occur concurrently: both are required to impact systemic change (Beidas & Kendall, 2016). In this discussion, I will write about two dissemination strategies that I am most likely to use and two strategies that I am least likely to use Developing a Culture of Evidence-Based Practice Discussion Essay.

Dissemination strategies most inclined to use

Printed educational materials (PEMs) like posters in break room bathroom bulletin are common and effective dissemination strategies for communicating information about evidence-based practice. The effectiveness of PEMs is primarily determined by how they are created (Williams et al., 2016). During this pandemic, for example, proper donning during code blue can be posted with pictures, which aids in a clear understanding of the prerequisites and organizational resources required to implement and sustain the EBP successfully. However, thanks to technological advancements, we can now install a lens board in our cell phones and receive updates. Every shift, nurses huddle and discuss for 15 minutes. This face-to-face approach facilitates interaction and instant feedback. Least inclined dissemination strategies

Podium presentations and national conferences are two disseminating techniques that I would avoid using. Most of these presentations feature doctors as speakers. They exceed the time constraints, more extended introduction, very detailed slides about the studies conducted. Presentations that exceed time constraints seem to be unfavorably received by the audience (Miquel et al., 2018). Furthermore, effective dissemination and communication must be a well-planned process that considers the target audience. Some workshops and seminars, for example, place a greater emphasis on the statistics of studies and research than on the findings and areas for improvement.

 

Potential Barriers to inclined dissemination strategies

Potential barriers include time constraints and a non-targeted audience. Understanding the audience is critical to delivering a meaningful message. What is their background? Why are they here? Is their participation mandatory or voluntary? How big will the message be, and how much time will it take to deliver it?  For example, most organizations will not give enough time to the speaker to prepare. In many cases, the surgeon will discuss how to perform surgery and the success rate, but not the care that the intended audience, nurses, prefer to hear about.

Overcoming Identified Barriers

There are specific ways to overcome the barriers; the hospital board and management can give enough time to the speaker. Developing a Culture of Evidence-Based Practice

In the discussion this week, we are exploring strategies for disseminating EBP within our organization, community, or industry. Evidence-based practice within an organization can be implemented in many ways and strategies. Many ways have remained stable over time including the changes driven by communication technology advances (Melynk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019). The organization I am exploring strategies for disseminating EBP is a local community health center in my town.

Two dissemination strategies I would be inclined to use

            Two dissemination strategies I would be inclined to use at my local community health center would be an education plan and video recorded podcast with evidence-based practice information. I would choose the education plan because you can use a series of emails, information packets, and newsletters to get your evidence-based practice information known to the people you are trying to reach (Gallagher-Ford et al., 2011). The video-recorded podcast would be a great dissemination strategy to use because you can get the information you want to be put into a video, you can reword the information, or erase unnecessary parts before publishing. The video can be watched later by the learner when it is convenient for them (Melynk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019).

Two dissemination strategies I would least be inclined to use

Two dissemination strategies I would least be inclined to use would be the oral presentation and the poster presentation. I think the oral presentation would require the speaker to make eye contact and memorize the presentation (Melynk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019). Many people find these long and tedious now. The poster presentation is a thing of the past. I feel like the poster presentation has become a thing of the past. Many people would rather use technology such as the laptop poster presentation or the PowerPoint presentation. The poster presentation requires more tools and setup and more people (Melynk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019).

Two barriers I might encounter using the education plan and video recorded podcast

Two barriers I might encounter using the education plan and video recorded podcast would be lack of time or knowledge or lack of equipment. One barrier could be the lack of time or knowledge of the nurse, staff, or personnel to be able to read the education plan, emails, or newsletters (Melynk et al., 2011). Another barrier would be the lack of technology hardware or software to use to watch the podcast. You could overcome the lack of time or knowledge by giving everyone employed at the facility a certain amount of time to read the set newsletter or email and respond back with a reply.
