Addressing the Nursing Instructor Shortage Essay
Nursing students experience diverse challenges that compromise their ability to manage patient needs. The evolving world requires evidence-based skills and the ability of professionals to develop effective and innovative solutions that specifically respond to the underlying issues and needs. The demand for nursing professionals and advanced skills requires adequate staffing to equip nursing students with advanced skills and strategies that enhance the quality of healthcare services. For instance, incorporating evidence-based strategies in nursing care requires nursing professionals to possess research skills and the ability to mobilize available resources and measures for addressing the underlying practice gaps. Pitsillidou et al. (2023) indicate that the healthcare needs of individuals and populations have significantly increased and compromised the capacity of nursing professionals to manage them with routine services. Therefore, developing innovative skills and utilizing health information technology will enhance the capacity of healthcare resources to manage and address the underlying needs and achieve the best healthcare resources. This quality and safety improvement project targets nursing students and novice nurses. These nurses enter the profession when critical issues and practice gaps require the implementation of evidence-based strategies. Nursing students and novice nurses experience issues and needs in the profession that require evidence-based practice. However, due to insufficient training, these professionals may be unable to initiate the best practices (Connor, 2023). Therefore, the targeted intervention is increasing nursing educators to deliver education on quality and safety improvement in healthcare. Increasing the number of professional instructors will instruct, train, and facilitate these nurses in incorporating evidence-based practice into clinical practice. The comparison issue in this change project is the current staffing ratios, where the nursing instructor shortage remains unattended in the clinical practice. The targeted outcomes that this change project aims to assess is to enhance the capacity of newly graduated nurses in applying the evidence-based practice in addressing healthcare issues such as patient falls, nosocomial infections, staff burnouts, medication errors, among other critical healthcare-acquired injuries, and adverse events (Abu-Baker et al., 2021). Evidence-based strategies are essential to enhance quality and safety in healthcare service delivery. Addressing the Nursing Instructor Shortage Essay
