SWOT Analysis
Identification
The SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. The company has control over strengths and weaknesses since it operates in the internal environment. Strengths include various activities that a corporation does better than its competitors. Thus, strengths are tangible qualities that give the company a competitive advantage over other industry players (Benzaghta et al., 2021). Examples of strengths include highly knowledgeable and competitive staff and digital technologies, among others. On the other hand, Weaknesses are the qualities the firm lacks (Benzaghta et al., 2021). Therefore, weaknesses make the competitors perform better than the company. The third component Opportunity consists of factors that increase the company’s success or growth possibilities (Benzaghta et al., 2021). Opportunity operates in the company’s external environment. The firm lacks control over opportunities available in the industry. Examples of opportunities include underserved markets for the company’s products and fewer competitors. The last component, Threat, includes all industry forces that threaten the company’s success or growth likelihood (Benzaghta et al., 2021) Origins of SWOT Analysis Discussion
Discussion
SWOT analyses can be applied at the department level. Companies conduct SWOT analysis before launching new projects in one of their departments (Puyt et al., 2020). In this case, SWOT results are used to assess the possibility of the new product’s success in the current market. Additionally, a SWOT analysis is conducted before venturing into a new market to determine if the target market is appropriate for the company’s products. Furthermore, SWOT analyses are applied at the organizational level to determine if the company’s business operations align with its growth targets and success benchmarks.
