Why I selected this individual and/or team and how they will support my success in the MSN program and as a practicing nurse: I worked with her for nine months when on a registered nurse travel assignment at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She has the responsibility of teaching prospective nursing professionals clinical skills, patient care methods, and best collaboration practices. In addition, she has the responsibility of managing academic and research activities at the facility. As an educator, she would be a good mentor as she would bring her knowledge, skills and background to help me prepare for my role as a nurse. Besides that, she is able to provide constructive feedback and effective guidance to help me in developing my clinical capabilities. She presents a good opportunities for peer learning, from shadowing her at work to having lunch-and-learns, all the exchanges allow for learning something. Through engaging her in peer learning, I expect to learn from her even as she learners from me, which means that we would be both teachers and learners in the interactions. The opportunity at peer education will be helpful in encouraging active participation in peer activities while helping to build relationships at work. This is an effective learning approach that will allow me to gain different perspectives on a subject matter, even as we exchange and build upon each other’s ideas while staying focused on the work task at hand.
