Every state contains different scopes of practices, titles, regulatory standards, and regulations for nursing practitioners, even if they possess similar education standards. As a Florida registered nurse who aims to become an advanced practicing registered nurse (APRN) in the future, there are various APRN board rules and regulations that apply to state and local nurses. For instance, the Florida Board of Nursing (FBoN) requires nurses to possess a registered nurse license, which can be obtained from any United States jurisdiction, and registered nurses cannot practice independently since they have to collaborate with physicians (Florida Board of Nursing, 2019). Locally, the nursing board that regulates APRN practice is the Nurse Practitioners of Lee County, which enables the registered nurses in the county to practice autonomously (Nurse Practitioners of Lee County, n.d.). However, the obligation to work independently is only allowed to General Pediatrics, General Internal Medicine, Family medicine, and Certified Nurse Midwives, particularly those working with an agreement on patient transfer. Florida regulations and standards for APRNs are different from those of a state like Arizona since the APRNs practice independently; thus, they do not need physician permission to perform tasks. Concerning certification, Arizona state nurse practitioners must have a temporary Arizona registered nurse license, or they are holders of a current professional license from a compact party state (Arizona State Board of Nursing, n.d.). That is unlike in Florida, where the registered nurse can have a license from any state. Such considerations are essential to registered nurses and other nursing students since they help them identify the state laws and regulations on nursing practice early. Such factors prevent future inconveniences, particularly regarding independent practices. Also, the type of license that is required in different states differs, thus calling for the nurses to ensure that they adhere to their states’ requirements (Halm, 2018). That can be seen in Florida and Arizona, where a Florida registered nurse’s license can be obtained from any state in the United States jurisdiction, while in Arizona, these nurses must obtain a temporary Arizona registered nurse license or from their compact party state.
