Executive Summary

The nursing profession has been known for its dynamic approach to offering safe and effective patient care in hospitals and community-based settings. Community-based care has seen significant improvements through preventative care and education. According to Schenk et al. (2021), the World Health Organization (WHO) community health care assessment is the primary treatment approach that provides the most effective disease elimination in society. Nurses have been known to promote excellent primary health care through the diagnosis and prevention of disease in a community. According to Norsa’adah et al. (2020), nurses have used a windshield survey while trying to do community health assessments. The windshield survey model is essential for gathering data on public conditions and healthcare needs (Malberg et al., 2020). Schenk et al. Looking at the schools, the students’ health and safety is a cause for concern due to the increasing number of students enrolled.  Elderly and young persons have the greatest health issues related to the environment and with densely populated areas, the need to preventative care is crucial.

Aside from the general health needs, Armatage has local public transportation available to assist its residents to get to hospitals, doctors offices, restaurants, and grocery stores.  There are also other amenities available such as parks, lakes, libraries, and museums for residents to enjoy.  According to the City of Minneapolis website (2023), the residents are very active in their parks, schools, and neighborhood associations.  The availability of parts allows residents to participate in leisure activities as well as outdoor sports (Norsa’adah et al.,2020). Recreational services are also offered in schools and community centers. Adequate recreation allows community members to enjoy the outdoors while promoting exercise and other healthy activities. Environmental Analysis

Public health in Armatage, Minnesota, is affected by many environmental factors. The city has a wide variety of industries that affect the communities health such manufacturing, construction, and public transportation. Manufacturing and public transportation serve as a primary source of pollution that affects the community members.  According to Malberg et al. (2020), air pollution seriously threatens public health.  Air pollutants deteriorate the global climate and contribute to the spread of infectious disease among the population.  Along with air pollution, there is also noise pollution in relation to the city’s proximity to the airport (2023).

Malberg et al. (2020) claimed that the socioeconomic status and health patterns of the city are affected by its large population. With an increase in population, there is an increase in crime and violence.  Armatage, like other cities in the world, has played a role in leading to the rise of mental health problems, which can have a negative impact on the quality of like within the community. Finally, the increasing availability of information technology, such as mobile applications, online resources, and the dominant social media sites, substantially affects city health (Norsa’adah et al.,2020). Due to this increase, it is important to create an effective initiative to promote primary healthcare.

Social Determinants

There are many different social factors that can affect or influence the overall community health.  Some of these factors include access to healthcare, access to public parks or outdoor space, and even access to transportation.  If there is a lack of access to any of these things, the community will have difficulty in maintaining good health.  Thankfully, Armatage does have access to these things, so its residents are able to receive healthcare and spend time outdoors.

Another social aspect to determine the health of a community is access to community centers or other groups that can provide support if needed.  Many elderly enjoy time at community centers when there are activities like bingo.  It gives them an opportunity to socialize and feel like a part of something. Conclusion

Completing a community health assessment is critical in increasing public health safety. By completing a windshield survey, a nurse can study a specific population or community and determine the healthcare needs of the area. This will allow for the nurse to improve services provided based on community needs.

The research gives a quick glance at Armatage’s environmental status and the impact on the potential health condition of the community. Population, ethnological distribution, and technological accessibility are only a few of the socioeconomic variables that influence the health of residents. Aside from socioeconomic variables, an environmental analysis is important to consider improving public health.  An important approach to improving the overall community health status is through education, health prevention, and public safety.
