How familiar are you with your state’s Nurse Practice Act?

There are various tasks and rights of the board of nursing offered by the Virginia Nurse Practice Act. The act specifies the specific roles of registered nurses, licensed applied nursing and other advanced practice nurses. A further detailed information concerning the educational requirements for one to acquire a practice license is contained in the act in the form of a report (Bowling et al., 2018). The Virginia’s state intervention project roles are also contained in this act. The act further provides the eligibility criteria of nursing practice through aspects such as rehabilitating, monitoring, educating, disciplining and licensing in accordance with the board of nursing. What did you learn that you didn’t know before today?

There are various lessons that I obtained and didn’t know before. Firstly, I just learned that specialized and practical nurses are supported by the Virginia board of nursing whenever they seek advanced education and training. The advancement in education facilitate these advanced nurses to gain skills in areas such as diagnosis, prescription, evaluation and treatment plans. The clinical experiences in this case are community based and they include disease prevention, health maintenance and health promotion among individuals and families at community level (Bowling et al., 2018). The other learned lesson is that the only licensed nurse specialists include certified nurse mid-wives, certified RN anesthetists, certified nurse practitioners and psychiatric nurses. How does this knowledge assist you as a leader or manager?

As a nurse manager or a leader in a healthcare organization, the information is essential as it will guide me towards planning and developing community-based programs thus playing a role in reducing health disparities in Virginia. The Virginia board of nursing has a wide application values that include psychological science, physical knowledge, biological and social science that are required in various nursing specializations and in leadership or managerial positions (Bowling et al., 2018).
