The regulatory and statutory definition of solid waste under the RCRA is that it is any refuse or garbage, and sludge from the wastewater treatment plant and water supply treatment plan that goes to the environment. The hazardous wastes have four distinct characteristics. The first s ignitability and which means that they create fires under several conditions and are combustible. The other characteristic is corrosivity (Reiswig, 2021). The corrosive wastes are the bases and acids, and the hazardous wastes can corrode metallic containers like storage tanks, barrels, and drums (Swiedler et al., 2019). The other is reactivity, and the wastes are unstable when subjected to normal conditions and can cause explosions. They also cause toxicity, which means that it is fatal or harmful when absorbed or ingested (Swiedler et al., 2019). Regulation § 262.11 is vital in determining whether solid waste is hazardous.
