World Health Organization on Nursing Potential Discussion
The World Health Organization (WHO) firmly believes that nurses have a critical role to play in the global healthcare system. They view nurses as the backbone of global health. Their knowledge and expertise can make a real difference in people’s lives. They recognize advanced practice nursing (APN) as a powerful tool that can be used to improve the quality of health care for patients (WHO, 2022). WHO believes that APNs have the potential to provide innovative and cost-effective solutions to a variety of health care issues.
In support of its perspective, the WHO has fostered advanced practice nursing on a global scale. For example, its publication “Advanced Practice Nursing: A Vision for the Future” (WHO, 2022), detailed the need for APNs and suggested ways in which they may contribute to global health care. The WHO is aiming to address the role of advanced practice nurses (APNs) in global health. It also pushes for more APN recognition and training, as well as legislation that encourages their integration into healthcare systems (Salvage et al.,2019). It promotes APNS by providing knowledge and tools to help nurses enhance their abilities.
However, the association has been chastised for not doing enough to encourage the worldwide advancement of advanced practice nursing. The WHO has been criticized for not devoting enough to research and development, which might stymie the advancement of new and creative methods (Unsworth et al.,2019). Furthermore, the WHO has been reprimanded for not doing enough to foster cross-cultural collaboration, which has hampered global advancement in advanced practice nursing.
