Nursing Role in Program Design and Implementation Essay
What is the healthcare program implemented in your practice?
The healthcare program being conducted within our clinical setting is lifestyle modification, including adjusting diets and increasing physical activities.
What are the costs and projected outcomes of this program?
The anticipated annual expenses for the program are approximately $100,000. This amount will be spent on publishing training materials, including flyers containing healthy lifestyle information. Additionally, this amount will be spent on publishing a booklet for healthy diet recipes, indicating recommended food components and the right portions for people with chronic diseases and those at a high risk of developing these conditions. Additionally, the booklet will indicate how various food types are prepared and consumed to prevent them from losing important nutrients. More so, the booklet will indicate healthy alternatives for certain types of foods, reducing the intake of unhealthy dishes among the targeted population. Lastly, these funds will be spent on hiring the training venue and training aids, including projectors. The expected outcomes of the lifestyle modification program reduction in the risk and prevalence of chronic diseases among the community members. Who is your target population?
This program targets the surrounding community, which mainly constitutes elderly individuals. This population has a high prevalence and is more likely to develop lifestyle diseases, including hypertension, type 2 diabetes (T2DM), and cardiovascular diseases. According to Qiu et al. (2021), the risk of various lifestyle diseases such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, and obesity is relatively high among geriatrics than in the general population. Studies indicate that lifestyle modification is an effective preventive and treatment intervention for lifestyle diseases (Kundapur et al., 2022). Thus, a lifestyle modification program is suitable for the neighboring community since it will reduce the risk of chronic diseases among healthy and reverse some terminal illnesses, lowering the high prevalence of chronic disorders in the community. The community outreach is conducted monthly consisting of 7 hours every month. The morning session lasts for hours in which community members are educated about lifestyle modifications that effectively lower risk or reverse lifestyle illnesses. The learners are given a one-hour lunch break. The afternoon session lasts for two hours in which the participants are allowed to interact amongst themselves and with their trainers, sharing their experiences concerning chronic illnesses. The training is conducted in social halls or churches based within the targeted community.
What is the nurse’s role in providing input for the design of this healthcare program?
Nurses contribute to the development of the design of the lifestyle modification program through knowledge acquired in their clinical practice. First, nurses diagnose and treat people with various chronic illnesses. Thus, they propose the target population for the program based on patients who are commonly diagnosed with chronic illnesses in the facility. For instance, nurses diagnose elderly patients with T2DM, hypertension, and CVDs. Hence, they proposed that the program should target geriatrics due to the high risk of chronic illness in this population. Secondly, nurses understand effective lifestyle modifications for preventing or reversing chronic illness. Thus, the proposed lifestyle modifications are to be emphasized during the program, resulting in desired outcomes. Nursing Role in Program Design and Implementation Essay
What is your role as an advocate for your target population for this healthcare program? Do you have input into design decisions? How else do you impact design?
As a nurse I interact with geriatric patients while providing them with healthcare services; hence I understand that the high prevalence of chronic illnesses is the most significant challenge facing this patient population. According to Abbasinia et al. (2020), nurses act as patient advocates in healthcare organizations. Thus, I support the proposed lifestyle modification program since it is an effective preventive and treatment intervention for chronic illnesses among elderly patients. Additionally, I influence the design by proposing the most effective lifestyle modifications for preventing chronic illnesses in this population. I can also influence the design by presenting established protocols for preventing and managing chronic illnesses in the medical facility.
What is the role of the nurse in healthcare program implementation?
Nursing during program implementation involves educating the community members about risk factors for the high rate of chronic illnesses, including lifestyles and aging. Additionally, nurses educate the community members on how to reduce the high risk of chronic illnesses through lifestyle modifications, including dietary changes and increasing physical activities. Nurses’ roles vary during the design and implementation of healthcare programs. In design, nurses proposed the most protocol and procedures to be utilized during the outreach program. On the other hand, nurses apply the proposed procedures and protocols to educate the elderly population about lifestyle modifications for preventing chronic illnesses in the implementation phase. Who are the members of a healthcare team mostly needed during program implementation?
Nurses are healthcare team members who are most needed in implementing the proposed program. Nurses interact with elderly patients who are diagnosed with various chronic illnesses. Thus, they understand the most effective lifestyle modifications for reducing the risk of chronic illnesses in this population. Nursing Role in Program Design and Implementation Essay
