Leadership and Management
One of the most common misconceptions is that leadership and management are the same concepts. It is not the case, as the two words mean two separate things. However, management entails all about directing an organization toward a specific objective. To be a leader is to influence, motivate and empower people to help your company succeed (Swanwick, 2019). There is a good chance that most medical team members do not have the time, expertise, or first-hand knowledge of the patient’s home environment and circumstances to grasp and respond to the unique needs of the patient and family members (Shalala et al., 2011). Even though the general public does not regard nurses as leaders and not all nurses begin their careers intending to lead, all nurses must lead in aspects such as system changes that will be necessary throughout time, including conceptualization, implementation, and evaluation.
