Diabetes is a chronic illness that impacts an individual’s body processes food into energy. Type 1 diabetes, also known as juvenile diabetes, happens due to an autoimmune where an individual’s immune system attacks insulin-producing cells and destroys them, which is mainly a genetic problem (Mobasseri et al., 2020). Type 2 diabetes is associated with an individual’s lifestyle-related issues like failure to observe a balanced diet and insufficient physical exercise (Berbudi et al., 2020). The treatment of Type 1 diabetes involves insulin injection into the skin’s fat layer after the doctor uses the A1C blood test to estimate the previous three months’ blood sugar levels. During injection, the needle needs to be at the right angle, and the patient should choose healthy eating like fruits and vegetables (Mobasseri et al., 2020). Type 2 diabetes is treated by Metformin, which can be a tablet, liquid, or long-acting tablet that helps lower blood sugar levels after the doctor assesses the blood sugar levels using the A1C blood tests. The patient should also increase their vegetable and fruit intake (Berbudi et al., 2020). The drug most effective for gestational diabetes is the insulin lispro since it enhances glycemic control either as a liquid or in suspension with a diet with fewer fats and calories (Johns et al., 2018). Insulin lispro solution should be injected 15 minutes after or before a meal. Insulin glulisine is appropriate for juvenile diabetes; a liquid solution to be injected under the skin should be administered 20 minutes after a meal and 15 minutes before a meal (Bimstein et al., 2019).

Type 1 and juvenile diabetes’  short- and long-term effects include hypoglycemia and macrovascular complications (Mobasseri et al., 2020). Type 2 diabetes’ short-term effect is hypoglycemia, with the long-term effects including macrovascular problems. Each year, 1.5 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes (American Diabetes Association, 2019). If left untreated, diabetic patients are at risk for several alterations, including heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, neuropathy, and blindness.
