A Nursing theory is a model that is meaningful in a number of ways in the current practice. Firstly, a nursing theory helps to distinguish nursing as a profession from other health related disciplines such as medicine. The Nightingale’s Environmental Theory is one of the nursing theories that has been so helpful in my career as a nurse. According to the theory, nursing is the practice of utilizing the intermediate patient’s environment towards assisting them to full recovery. According to the theory, the role of the nurse is to configure the patient’s environmental setting to facilitate their gradual health restoration (Kaakinen et al., 2018). From the environment of the current world, it is characterized with environmental pollutions such as emission of poisonous gases as a result of industrialization. The theory has therefore helped me to create awareness on the health risks posed by these environmental pollutions. People have also contributed to cutting down of trees which impact global warming associated with destruction of the ozone layer. The theory has therefore helped me to advocate for planting of trees which will greatly help in reduction of diseases such as skin cancer that develops as a result of destruction of the ozone layer.

In a recap, nursing theories sustain the roles of nurses towards delivering quality healthcare services. Through the nursing theories, nursing as a profession is well distinguished from other health related disciplines such as medicine. Nursing theories also play an important role in the process of patient care as they offer guidance to evidence based practices concerning the various health issues that patients encounter.
