APRN Board Of Nursing Regulations Discussion

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) include nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, and clinical nurse specialists. They lay a significant role in the future of the health care industry. Normally, APRNs are the primary care providers at the forefront of giving preventive care services to the public (Graduate Nursing EDU, 2017)APRN Board Of Nursing Regulations Discussion. The scope of practice and requirements for APRN designation is extremely state-specific since different states have different regulations. Therefore, this paper delves into explaining in-depth the difference between APRN regulations in Texas and Georgia.

APRNs in Texas are required by the Prescriptive Authority Agreement to join and register with the Texas BON. The BON issues the APRNs in Texas with a full and active license and a valid prescriptive authorization number to the nurse practitioners in Texas. Similarly in Georgia, APRNs are regulated by the board of nursing (BON). BON is responsible for the renewal of licenses, disciplinary actions, applications for nurse licensure, and issuance of nursing licenses. Besides, APRNs in Texas are allowed to exercise the full scope of their work and training autonomously. Also, the nurse practitioners in Texas can prescribe, treat, assess and diagnose a patient as part of a health team or under a physician’s care (Kleinsteuber, 2018)APRN Board Of Nursing Regulations Discussion. The BON of Georgia for the APRN is the most restrictive since they require them to actively engage in a protocol agreement with a supervising physician to get a comprehensive mandate. Also, the APRNs in Georgia are not allowed to prescribe drugs to patients thus lowering their ability to request any diagnostic tests (Graduate Nursing EDU, 2017). Furthermore, the BON in Georgia requires all the APRNs to have an active Georgia registered nursing license before practicing in the state. The APRNs who are licensed independently must work under protocol agreements where they are controlled by the Georgia Composite Medical Board. However, the Texas regulation requires the APRNs to meet all the requirements outlined in rules 221.4 and 221.3 in order to practice independently.

To be approved to work as an APRN in Texas, one must hold a valid and unfettered Texas registered nurse license (Kleinsteuber, 2018). The new graduates apply for the National Examination Application and the registered nurses from other states apply for the National Endorsement Application,

APRN Board of Nursing Regulations

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) include nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, nurse anaesthetists, and clinical nurse specialists. They lay a significant role in the future of the health care industry. The scope of practice and requirements for APRN designation is extremely state-specific since different states have different regulations. Therefore, this paper delves into explaining in-depth the difference between APRN regulations in Georgia and Ontario.

In Georgia, APRNs are regulated by the board of nursing (BON). BON is responsible for the renewal of licenses, disciplinary actions, applications for nurse licensure, and issuance of nursing licenses. Contrastingly, in Ontario, the APRNs are regulated and governed by the College of Nurses of Ontario. Both BON in Georgia and the College of Nurses of Ontario give similar credentials, but they show a significant difference in the scope of practice (Nurse Practitioners Association of Ontario, 2021). The BON f Georgia for the APRN is the most restrictive since they require them to actively engage in a protocol agreement with a supervising physician to get a comprehensive mandate. Also, the APRNs in Georgia are not allowed to prescribe drugs to patients thus lowering their ability to request any diagnostic tests (Graduate Nursing EDU, 2017)APRN Board Of Nursing Regulations Discussion. However, in Ontario, APRNs are allowed to prescribe medication and controlled substances as long as they completed the required level of education.

Furthermore, the BON in Georgia requires all the APRNs to have an active Georgia registered nursing license before practicing in the state. The APRNs who are licensed independently must work under protocol agreements where they are controlled by the Georgia Composite Medical Board. Contrastingly, all the APRNs are allowed to exercise autonomy in Ontario by the state licensure regulations and laws (Nurse Practitioners Association of Ontario, 2021)APRN Board Of Nursing Regulations Discussion. Nurses in Ontario freely order a diagnostic test, diagnose, initiate treatments, prescribe medication, and manage treatments.

Professional Nursing and State-Level Regulations

Boards of Nursing (BONs) exist in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Virgin Islands. Similar entities may also exist for different regions. The mission of BONs is the protection of the public through the regulation of nursing practice. BONs put into practice state/region regulations for nurses that, among other things, lay out the requirements for licensure and define the scope of nursing practice in that state/region APRN Board Of Nursing Regulations Discussion.

  • Consider how key regulations may impact nursing practice.
  • Review key regulations for nursing practice of your state’s/region’s board of nursing and those of at least one other state/region and select at least two APRN regulations to focus on for this Discussion APRN Board Of Nursing Regulations Discussion.
