There are two recognized forms of accreditation: institutional and specialized. The institutional form aims to assess an institution’s quality and integrity of the programs offered. In contrast, the specialized form assesses the extent to which a program has achieved its goal—mission, vision, and outcomes. The Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education is a specialized accreditation agency that helps improve public health. This is achieved by evaluating program outcomes for baccalaureate, master’s, and nursing doctorate programs through its adopted standards and procedures.
