A brief description of my results from the Strengths Finder Assessment
My top five signature themes are achiever, belief, positivity, arranger, and woo. The achiever theme assists explain my drive as it describes a consistent need for achievement. The belief theme makes be to be altruistic, family-oriented, and value high ethics and responsibility in myself and others. The positivity theme enables me to be on the lookout for the positive in any situation and be enthusiastic. The arranger theme enables me to deal with complex situations that involve numerous variables. I can align and realign these variables until I am sure that I put them together in the most productive arrangement. Woo theme means I am always able to win others over. Two core values, two strengths, and two characteristics that I would like to strengthen
Social justice and integrity are two core values I would like to strengthen. According to Murray (2021)Assessment Of Leadership Style Discussion Paper, social justice is acting per fair treatment irrespective of sexual orientation, disability, age, ethnicity, race, or socioeconomic status. I will need to support non-discrimination and fairness in care delivery, promote universal access to health care and encourage policies and legislation consistent with the advancement of health care and nursing. Integrity is reflected when a nurse is honest and offers care based on an ethical framework. Hemberg and Salmela (2019) indicate that leading with integrity is essential. Leaders who lead with integrity are devoted and actively involved as both a team member and team leader and are visible and present.
Communication and empathy are two strengths I would like to strengthen. Being an empathetic leader will allow me to understand and respond to the needs of my followers while good communication skills will help me to effectively communicate with colleagues and also mold effective communication skills in my followers. According to Murray (2021), nurse leaders have the responsibility of promoting effective communication in the place of work, and fundamentally, need to model effective communication for employees. Characteristics of effective communicators include listening actively, having empathy, respecting what others say, encouraging input from others, and avoiding sarcasm. Facilitating teamwork and effective communication and ensuring that nursing staff are competent in communication skills are the duties of nurse leaders and managers.
Compassion and courage are two characteristics I would like to strengthen. According to Selekman et al. (2019)Assessment Of Leadership Style Discussion Paper, compassion is being mindful of own feelings and others’ feelings to communicate respectfully and effectively without bias or judgment. Courage is the willingness to step out of my comfort zone and face potential risks so as to solve problems in a way consistent with ethics and core values.
