You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.Case-Study: Nursing Scope Discussion-Questions Essay
Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.

Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.Case-Study: Nursing Scope Discussion-Questions Essay

The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.

An individual nurses’ scope of practice can be influenced by education, experience, and population served. It is important that nurses make decisions regarding their scope of practice, to which they are professionally and legally responsible. (AZBN, 2013). When determining whether a new procedure falls within the RN’s scope of practice, it is important to research their State Board of Nursing, the American Nurses Association, and other organizations.Case-Study: Nursing Scope Discussion-Questions Essay

The Arizona State Board of Nursing has a decision making tool, which describes guidelines for decision making regarding scope of practice. Process for Utilizing the Decision Making Tool:
Determine if the activity is consistent with the Arizona Nurse Practice Act and/or Advisory Opinion. Is the skill for the RN/LPN within generally recognized scope and standards of practice? Is the activity something taught in your basic nursing education program? Can you document successful completion of the additional education Does your employer agency allow you to perform the activity? (Example: Are there written policies and procedures in place?) Do you know how to perform the act? Are you currently competent? Is the nurse prepared to assume accountability for the action and for the outcomes of the care?

After determining if the new procedure falls within the nurse’s scope of practice, it can be introduced to the physicians and fellow nurses (assuming that it was already approved). I believe the first step would be to research the procedure. Gather data to present to the team, and include evidence-based research. Explain the benefits of the new procedure. A group of experienced trainers can train the team. Be sure that the team understands the procedure and that they can perform it correctly. Allow the team to provide feedback. Perhaps there is a way to keep improving.Case-Study: Nursing Scope Discussion-Questions Essay

It is important to know that the task a nurse performs is within the scope of practice. So that a nurse can perform his/her task in a permitted way safely. According to the ICN (International Council of Nurses), “Nursing encompasses autonomous and collaborative care of individuals of all ages, families, groups and communities, sick or well and in all settings. Nursing includes the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and the care of ill, disabled and dying people. Advocacy, promotion of a safe environment, research, participation in shaping health policy and in patient and health systems management, and education are also key nursing roles” (ICN 2010) This statement clearly defines the scope of practice of a nurse. But in the field of nursing there are several kinds of care givers. It includes registered nurses, midwives, licensed practitioner nurses, enrolled nurses and nurse assistants. The scopes of practice for these care givers are not so common. The scope of practice depends on their education qualification and experience which are well defined by the governing bodies. Some areas in the scope of practice of a nurse according to Queensland nursing council are, • Giving direct care, including assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care • Coordinating care and supervising others • Leading, managing • Teaching, education, health promotion and counseling • Undertaking research • Developing health, nursing and midwifery policy Above mentioned Case-Study: Nursing Scope Discussion-Questions
