Introduction

Social media, including in the profession of nursing, has become a crucial component of our personal and professional life in the current digital era (Farsi, 2021). However, it is imperative that nurses understand how their internet reputation can significantly affect both their professional careers and the standing of the nursing profession as a whole. This paper examines my social media presence in order to identify any posts or interactions that might be viewed as inappropriate by nurses. The debate will also cover how nurses must uphold professional conduct, including how individual choices can contravene HIPAA rules or be viewed as unethical or unprofessional. Last but not least, I will assess the aspects of my social media activity that exhibit Christian principles and pinpoint those that require development. Inappropriate Posts or Conversation

I found a number of postings and chats during the evaluation of my social media activity that could be seen as inappropriate by nursing standards. One such instance was a blog post where I shared private patient information, going against the HIPAA-mandated standards of patient privacy and confidentiality. In addition to undermining patient trust in healthcare providers, this act also calls into question the integrity of the nursing field as a whole. Responsibility to Uphold Standards

The nursing profession demands that its practitioners adhere to certain ethical standards not only at work but also outside of it. Nurses must recognize this obligation since patients, families and communities have unreserved faith in them when seeking help. The provision of ethical and safe care to patients is ensured through upholding professional conduct. Patient privacy and trust are jeopardized by personal behavior that contravenes HIPAA rules, such as publishing patient information on social media (Bentotahewa et al., 2021). The essential values of nursing, such as respect, compassion, and dignity, are undermined by ethical misbehavior, such as having hurtful talks or making disparaging statements. For instance, disclosing patient information without authorization may result in legal consequences, violate patient confidentiality, and tarnish both the patient’s reputation and the nurse’s professional standing. Reflecting Christian Values

Respecting the inherent worth and dignity of every person is vital for a nurse who upholds Christian principles. I discovered times in my social media activity when I promoted respect and decency for everyone while speaking up in favor of inclusivity, equality, and justice for marginalized groups. These articles were in line with nursing ethics and Christian values. I did, however, also see room for development. There have been times when I failed to speak out against or refute others’ prejudiced remarks. I may more accurately represent Christian principles and positively contribute to the development of human dignity on social media by actively participating in conversations to combat prejudice and discrimination. Conclusion

The importance of upholding professional conduct in nursing and being aware of the potential repercussions of inappropriate online behavior have been highlighted by this analysis of my social media presence. In order to preserve the prestige of the nursing profession, nurses have a duty to uphold moral standards and safeguard patient privacy (Ladis & Zolkefli, 2021). A fundamental component of nursing is adhering to Christian ideals, such as recognizing human worth and dignity, and this should show in all areas of a nurse’s life, including their use of social media. Nurses can more effectively contribute to a more accepting and caring online environment while keeping the ethics of their profession and Christian perspective by acknowledging areas for improvement, such as openly confronting discriminatory remarks.
