The comparison is made between humanistic-existential psychotherapy (H-EP) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). H-EP is a psychotherapy approach that promotes self-awareness and personal growth by focusing on the current circumstances. The client is aided in accepting responsibility for the current state of being and the associated consequences. The basis of H-EP is that every person is inherently good, and the therapy holistically guides clients to improve their awareness of personal existence while paying attention to the things that improve personal existence, such as creativity, free will, and human potential. When applied, H-EP focuses on the client’s creativity and inner strength while acknowledging the free will to make choices even as the client is helped in recognizing that the future is uncertain.
