Compassion Fatigue in the Long-term Care Setting Essay
Compassion Fatigue in the Long-term Care Setting: Scope Statement
o Project Scope Description
The project seeks to explore and understand the concept of compassion fatigue among nurses working in long-term care facilities, especially in the face of nurse staffing shortages resultant from Covid-19 concerns. The selected facility has a 99 bed capacity, but is at 75% occupancy owing to a no admission policy in the face of Covid-19 outbreak. As primary care providers, nurses are concerned about the threat of the virus to their health and to the health of their families. The result is that five nurses have resigned from their positions citing virus infection concerns. This has worsened the staffing shortage so that the available nurses have to do more work with increased call offs and call ins. In addition, new staffing policies have been implemented to protect the available nurse staff against being infected with the virus. The new policies include no bonuses, and weekend and shift differentials so that nurses increasingly feel underappreciated even as they work on high risk shifts with Covid-19 patients. Given this awareness, the present project seeks to explore and understand the scope of compassion fatigue among nurse staff at the facility (Finkelman, 2019). o Project Acceptance Criteria/Metrics used to determine success
o Project Exclusions
The project does not include exploring and understanding compassion fatigue among other medical personnel and stakeholders. It only focuses on nurses. In addition, the project does not include collecting information/data from other facilities except for the selected facility (Bemker& Schreiner, 2017).
o Project Constraints
The project must be delivered on schedule with all the reports presented in line with the timeline. In addition, all the data must be collected from the selected facility(Bemker& Schreiner, 2017).
o Project Assumptions
The project assumes that all the required data/information will be obtained from the selected facility. If the data is not available in one department then it would be collected from other departments in the facility. Also, there is a belief that the schedule prepared for the project will allow for adequate amounts of information to be collected (Bemker& Schreiner, 2017).Compassion Fatigue in the Long-term Care Setting Essay
