MY POST

One key insight from the scholarly resources I selected is the importance of effective communication skills in leadership. Effective leadership requires communication skills including listening and adapting to various audiences (Saputra, 2021). I had the privilege of working with a leader named Sarah who excelled in this area. She genuinely listened to others, encouraged dialogue, asked questions, and provided constructive feedback. As a result, our team thrived in a collaborative environment, which significantly boosted morale and productivity. Complexity Theory And Leadership Practice Assignment Paper

Another essential aspect of leadership is empathy and emotional intelligence. Leaders who can understand and connect with their team members’ emotions and experiences build trust in a work environment (Northouse, 2021). I once had the pleasure of working under David’s management, who exemplified this skill well. During a high-pressure project when one team member was overwhelmed with their workload and on the brink of burnout, David did not push them further. Still, instead, he took the time for a one-on-one conversation expressing concern and offering support. This act of empathy not only helped alleviate the individual’s stress but also solidified their loyalty to both the team and the organization. Ultimately it played a role in our project’s success.

In both instances mentioned above these demonstrated behaviors and skills proved effective. Sarah’s communication skills created an environment where open communication thrived leading to improved problem-solving abilities and overall team performance. David’s ability to understand and connect with others on a level was instrumental in bringing the team together and building trust. This in turn led to a decrease in stress levels and an overall improvement in the well-being of individuals and the group as a whole (Rosenhead et al., 2019). These leadership practices impacted the workplace positively and left a lasting impression on team members, inspiring them to emulate these behaviors in their leadership roles. Leadership Theories in Practice

Healthy work environments that maximize the well-being and health of nurses are fundamental to achieving optimal organizational performance and better patient outcomes. Effective leadership at the corporate level should be present, and effective communication practice is vital. Nurses must make patient care decisions and have autonomy over their environment (Mabona et al., 2022). Complexity Theory And Leadership Practice Assignment Paper

Leadership behaviors influence outcomes for professional nurses, patients, and the work environment.   For example, transformational leadership behaviors such as effective communication, charismatic influence, individualized consideration, and valorization of relationships create a healthy practicing atmosphere. Specchia et al. (2021) posit that transformational leaders motivate subordinates to perform beyond expectations to promote organizational and team interests. Servant leadership behaviors include listening to others, empathy, devotion to growing people,  and helping them overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

Nursing leadership has a  pivotal role to play in shaping the performance of nursing staff, thus achieving organizational goals, ensuring quality care delivery, and improving patient outcomes; for example, servant leadership behaviors such as being empathetic and humanistic can improve the skills and competencies of nurses, particularly their capability to communicate, apply innovative ideas and express themselves. Transformational leadership behaviors such as support, intellectual stimulation, and motivation can improve nurses’ job performance and satisfaction (Alsadaan et al., 2023). The situation where I have seen a leader use transformational leadership skills and behaviors is when the nurse manager of the acute psychiatric unit holds monthly staff meetings and encourages nurses to voice their ideas, concerns, and opinions on how to improve care processes. The supervisor listens to individual nurse concerns and encourages them to discuss what changes can be implemented to promote patient and staff wellbeing. Asif et al. (2019) posit that transformational leaders develop quality patient care and citizenship behaviors by offering a healthy practicing environment. By creating relationships, leaders obtain employees’ trust and confidence and foresee their needs by empowering them. Vidman and Stromberg (2020) emphasize a transformational leader serves as a role model, adds challenge and meaning to followers’ work, encourages followers to be creative and use new approaches to solve problems, and pays attention to the needs of each individual.

Leadership skills and behaviors are highly effective in making nurses feel valued and part of decision-making. Through leadership skills, staff are encouraged to be creative and challenge the status quo when urged to generate frontline solutions. When the manager integrates the solutions into new policies and processes, nurses are empowered to continue recommending solutions and to perform tasks confidently.                                                              POST TWO

Leadership is important in our everyday live and every organization as well.  It is a major concern when it comes to healthcare system because you are dealing with people with skills, and different cultures. We all practice Leadership at a point in time in our house. To become a good leadership, there are some couple of qualification one must earned. According to the Walden University LLC. A good leader must be consistent in his approach. In the scholarly resource “Exploring inconsistencies between   time-based expectations and actual behaviors”, describe how being consistent as a leader help create relationships with you and your followers. By infusing time-related characteristics into leadership research, we not only consider the content and structure of temporal ILTs and IFTs, but also draw attention to potential inconsistency in leaders’ temporal IFTs and followers’ actual behaviors, as well as followers’ temporal ILTs and leaders’ actual behaviors. (Alipour, K. K., Mohammed, S., & Martinez, P. N. (2017). For instance, a nursing leader who is firm and consistent about his decisions and plans with workers achieved the best satisfactions. Leadership Theories in Practice: Discussion Response I and II

Response I (Post I)

In agreement with your post, there is a clear indication of the critical role leadership and related theories play in nursing and the healthcare sector and how they can impact the nurse professionals’ well-being and the quality of the patient care delivered. Effective leadership is an indispensable tool and foundation for a successful healthcare organization as it influences the work environment and patient outcomes. Complexity Theory And Leadership Practice Assignment Paper

As identified in the post, transformational leaders stand out as a valuable leadership approach. More so, the provided example where the nurse leader encourages open communications while involving the nurses in decision making denotes an excellent situation of transformational leadership in action. According to Lim & Moon (2021), such identified behavior helps foster a sense of engagement and ownership among workers and nurses, resulting in improved performance. In agreement with the articles selected and used, i.e., Asif et al., transformation leaders work by creating an enabling environment where nurses are trusted and empowered, resulting in benefits for patients and the organization (Asif et al., 2019).

While the transformational type of leader is well articulated to nurses and organizational needs, the mention of servant leadership can hardly be overlooked. The emphasis on addressing nurse’s needs and empathy and supporting their growth and development aligns with an understanding that influential leaders contribute to organizational excellence and the development of their team members (Lin et al., 2020). This, in turn, helps build a healthcare team-based environment that results in high-quality care. Complexity Theory And Leadership Practice Assignment Paper
