COVID-19 virus reflection assignment

COVID-19 virus reflection assignment

  1. Reflect back to when you first heard about the COVID-19 virus in Wuhan, China.  Think about the events that have lead us to where we are today.  It may difficult to accurately assess what you were thinking or feeling three weeks ago and in the following weeks, however, try your best.
  2. Search for images (places, people, events across the world) that have created an impression on your mind.  You will use these images to help support and document the progression of your thoughts as the pandemic developed. You can find these on the Internet as public health specialists, journalists, and people like you and I trying to make sense and convey the gravity of the situation.

Paper Purpose

The purpose of this mini-paper is to evaluate how we chronicle/record a disease outbreak as human beings, and specifically, respond to a disease outbreak of such magnitude as COVID-19.   This should be a reflective paper that outlines the timeline of an event that starts a small outbreak of a disease halfway around the world to a global calamity.

Content

Write a 4 – 5 page (8 paragraphs), double-spaced paper that brings together your thoughts, emotions, and the images of COVID-19 (places, people, events across the world) that have created an impression on your mind. Images should be inserted into your word document within paragraphs about your ideas, sensations, and emotions. The essay should document the progression of your thoughts as the pandemic developed from something happening in Wuhan, China to lockdown in several US states and you being stuck at home and your college classes being conducted fully online.

Guiding Questions

    1. How do we process our own emotions as news and images start flooding in?
    2. How do we make sense of a disaster of such proportions?
    3. Amidst such pictures, news, and your own thoughts- how does a global pandemic emerge?
    4. Are emotions and images powerful ways of not only making sense of/representing a pandemic but ways of construction the disease itself?

I have provided some questions for you to consider as you organize your thoughts and your paper.  These questions should be used as guiding ideas to frame your essay.
