Dashboard Analysis and Nursing Plan Essay
As Dr. Rempher and Ms. Manna discussed this week, data from the NDNQI is used to improve nursing practices and support the strategic outcomes of an organization. This data is also used to create the Dashboard. The Dashboard, then, is used to create an action plan. Correctly interpreting information presented on the Dashboard provides nurses with a better understanding of the goals of the action plan. For this Assignment, use the Dashboard located in this week’s Resources, to interpret the data and frame a nursing plan based on best practices. Draft a 3- to 4 page paper analyzing areas where there is good performance and areas of opportunity from the sample Dashboard. Analyze the data provided in the Dashboard and select an area of performance that needs improvement. Include information on why this area was chosen. Develop a nursing plan that includes suggestions on how to improve performance on the selected indicator. Be sure to provide at least three best practices from the evidenced-based literature to support your suggested nursing plan. Dashboard Analysis and Nursing Plan Essay
Dashboard Analysis and Nursing Plan
A dashboard in healthcare is the graphic representation of important information that outlines the performance of an organization in quality designated areas range. Quality dashboard also represents one page report that gives an organization the right direction to focus for quality assurance and control actions (Hunt, 2017). Furthermore, quality dashboard in healthcare gives clinicians and the users in a healthcare facility summary performance measures for patients. In addition, quality dashboard provides the healthcare providers with a platform to drill down individual patients .Dashboard Analysis and Nursing Plan Essay
Data Analysis
The American Nurses Association (ANA) developed NDNQI (National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators) to continue building and collecting healthcare information from earlier research. The collected information helped the organization to continue growing the nursing body of knowledge that affected the nursing care quality. The nurse sensitive indicator that was selected for quality improvement is the pressure ulcers percentage (Hunt, 2017). The sample dashboard containing data for pressure ulcers indicated only a single part of the four quarters that had met the target value required. Pressure ulcers is a global healthcare problem that damages patients’ outcome as well as the quality of life by financially draining patients and hospitals.

Pressure ulcers is the condition where the integrity of the skin breaks down frequently forming around the bony areas thus reducing blood flow. The risk factors facing patients predispose the patients to forming the pressure ulcer thus threatening their health. Furthermore, pressure ulcers affect people of all ages across their life span and sometimes the patients become immobilized or confined to a bed (Avşar & Karadağ, 2018). When the blood circulation is slowed down, the distribution of oxygen is reduced and eventually stopped. Conversely, other vital nutrients are also reduced to the affected areas causing ischemia. Ischemia is the restriction of blood supply to the body tissues leading to oxygen shortage required for cellular metabolism. Pressure ulcers occur in different stages including unsaleable stage that ha complete thickness skin or tissue loss and stage 1-4.Dashboard Analysis and Nursing Plan Essay
Nurses are at the frontline preserving and defending patients and populations from pressure ulcer infection. In healthcare, the deterrence of pressure ulcers is an indication of provision of low quality care to the patients (Avşar & Karadağ, 2018). Furthermore, the presence of pressure ulcers inpatients is considered as a nurse-sensitive patient outcome. Therefore, the nurses have a great impact on pressure ulcers development, treatment as well as prevention. Nurses have mandate of preventing and rectifying further pressure ulcer decline and infection. However, the pressure ulcers management does not only require nurses’ intervention but also all the healthcare cadres including dieticians, public health officers and doctors.
Evidence-based nursing care is well-versed by investigating medical proficiency, standards of the patientsas well as investigated results to expound on patient outcome. Patient care related to evidence-based practice therefore must have treatment and prevention guidelines. Nurses should strategize on performing a head to toe skin assessment on the patients on admission. In addition, any changes in a patient only require a single evidence-based intervention to prevent further formation of a pressure ulcers (Montalvo, 2007). Furthermore, the use of Braden scale is encouraged since it will help the nurses in detecting the patients who are at a risk as well as patients who might require evidence-based intervention. The dietary status of a patient exposes them to a treat of developing pressure ulcers hence it is necessary to conduct a nutritional assessment. A nutritional assessment will guide the nurses about the nutrition condition of the patient and also give an insight whether an additional evidence-based tactic for prevention is required.
A clinical practice protocol to identify proof and also deliver grounded clinical references was created by the ACP (American College of Physicians). The clinical practice protocol also helped the nurses to measure the efficiency of treatments given to patients with multiple ulcers through the use of multiple literature databases. The treatment of a previously for pressure ulcer with air-fluidized beds helped to reduce the ulcer size (Avşar & Karadağ, 2018). Additionally, the addition of a protein supplement improved the ulcer healing from the initial formed size. Moreover, treatment of the treatment of the pressure ulcer using topical collagen, radiant healing applications, dextranomer crème and foam applications helped the ulcer to heal on time. The adjunctive therapies were also treated using light therapy, laser therapy, therapeutic ultrasound and electromagnetic therapy enhanced faster healing of the wound.Dashboard Analysis and Nursing Plan Essay

The use of several approachesas well series of treatments is essential in treatment and prevention of pressure ulcers. Additionally, the use addressing, lessening and recognizing the vulnerability of circumstances and issues that predispose a patient to pressure ulcers prevent further development of an already formed pressure ulcer (Montalvo, 2007). However, pressure ulcers is a substantial hurdle to patients who are incomplete immobile. The entire population at jeopardy of developing pressure ulcer is continuously precipitating due to war veterans, baby boomers as well as shifting demographics. Therefore, the use of evidence-based practice in nursing to prevent development of patient ulcers in patients as well as treating the already suffering patients. Evidence, based practice is effective in the prevention and treatment of the pressure ulcers hence placing science back into the nursing art.
