Discussion 1: Nursing Research Discussion
Nursing research is actually very important for the nursing profession. Nursing research is the methodical search for and substantiation of knowledge on issues that are significant to the profession of nursing and connects theory, practice, and education. Research is vital for validation of the nursing profession, documentation of the efficiency of nursing interventions, provision of a scientific knowhow base for practice and demonstration of accountability for the nursing profession. According to Suresh (2014), the specific rationale for nursing research is to recognize, depict, investigate, explain, and control facts. Thus, research enables nurses to develop refine and expand scientific knowledge base, which is requisite for quality nursing administration, education and quality care. Additionally, it provides a foundation for evidence-based practice and assists nurses to eliminate nursing interventions that do not produce the desired patient outcomes.
Nursing research relates to evidence-based practice in that evidence-based practice (EBP) necessitates utilizing research outcomes to guide clinical decisions and patient care. In evidence-based or research-based practice, nurses base their nursing interventions on the research results. As Funnel et al (2016) indicate, EBP is crucial if the profession of nursing is to deliver care that is efficient, effective and safe. The ultimate purpose of nursing is to offer care that is based on evidence that promotes quality results for clients and their families, healthcare providers as well as the healthcare system.Discussion 1: Nursing Research Discussion

The problem I have encountered is the transmission of infections from patients to visitors, health care workers, and other patients. The majority of hospital-acquired infections are caused by the noncompliance of health care workers to appropriate hand hygiene. Hand hygiene is an evidence-based practice that can reduce the occurrence of these infections. McDonald et al., (208) assert that there is evidence that appropriate hand hygiene, including hand washing, utilization of disposable gloves, and hand disinfection lessens rates of hospital-acquired infections.
