Healing Practices

At my workplace, there are many Indians who practice cultural healing practices, such as Ayurveda. They believe that health correlates with the three core components of the body, soul, and spirit. During my second month of practice, an Indian who was part of our interprofessional team was not feeling well. Due to longer working hours, she was feeling emotionally drained. Ayurveda is a traditional Indian healing practise that can be traced back to over 3,000 years (Vyas, 2016). People who practice Ayurveda believe in the basic humors of the human body in varying combinations. Consequently, a state of illness is marked by an imbalance between these basic components (Vyas, 2016).

The Ayurveda healing practice has been met with criticism as it lacks s scientific evidence. Although the outreach of the healing system is global, Western medical scholars and nursing practitioners believe that the science has not scientific approach or principles and cannot be accepted as part of conventional treatment modalities (Jaiswal & Williams, 2016).
