Variables and Levels of Measurement

In descriptive statistics, there is a well-defined methodology for presenting data with a considerable degree of reliability through organization and collection, summary, interpretation and representation, and, finally, data analysis (Gray & Grove, 2020). A variable can be classified as qualitative or quantitative (Huang et al., 2020). Variable is the question my research is looking for an answer to.

The dependent variables will be sleep and employment status. The independent variables will be age, gender, and age at the onset of diabetes. In the levels of measurement, sleep will be ordinal data as it will collect the numbers of hours the patients get uninterrupted sleep, categorized into different levels. The advantage of this variable is the ability to track patients’ quality of life, with drawbacks of patients losing track of the hours slept. Age and age at the onset of diabetes will be scale variables as they measure continuous data. These variables help in correlating the health status of the patients with age determinants with the challenge of receiving false data. Employment status and gender will be categorized as nominal variables because they serve to give more information about the respondent; false data is the major drawback for employment status.
