I chose this article because I have been a nurse in one of the busiest emergency departments in the United States and have witnessed and have been victim to violent outbursts from patients. I have often been told by those more experienced than me, that this is just a part of the culture and something I’d better get used to. While I have never taken real offense to any insulting comments from patients, I will not tolerate violence and have always wondered why it’s so common. I used the ScienceDirect database to find this article. I personally did not have any issue with finding this article, fortunately, as I was logged into the Walden Library simultaneously and I seemed to have open access to searching the database and accessing the full article. Since my colleagues all have access to the Walden Library and would have the same privileges, I believe that ScienceDirect would be a useful database to find all kinds of peer-reviewed journal articles and quantitative/qualitative research studies. I personally prefer studies with some kind of qualitative or quantitative data to reference for statistical analysis, like the article I found on ScienceDirect. I would recommend ScienceDirect because the main search bar allows the user to search for keywords, journal or book titles, and by author. There are also filters to narrow down a search by year, language, article type (research articles, review articles, etc.), subject area, and publication title, to name a few. I find ScienceDirect to be user-friendly, and it is also backed by Elsevier, a publisher I am familiar with from education I have done through my employer.
