Nursing Shortage
The nursing shortage is one of the most critical issues facing today’s healthcare and contributes to complications and issues facing today’s healthcare industry. The issue escalates and compromises the existing healthcare disparities, impacting the quality of services, and minimizing the ability of patients and populations to access the desired healthcare services (Udod, 2023). In this discussion, I will explore the nursing shortage issue and the strategies that my organization is applying to address the issue and enhance healthcare service delivery. Nursing Shortage as a National Issue
Explanation and analysis of the nursing shortage issue: Nursing shortage refers to the limited number of nurses in an organization, community, or country who are required to offer timely and effective nursing care. The nursing shortage results in the inability of nurses to offer timely and standard care to patients and achieve a high quality of life. A review by Tamata and Mohammadnezhad (2022) indicates several factors, including the growing healthcare needs, aging nursing professionals, and fewer nurses entering into the practice. The research further indicates that more than three million nurses are needed to fill the gap and achieve optimal results for the global population.
The social determinants of health affected: Nursing shortage affects the healthcare service delivery, affecting the ability of healthcare professionals to identify and address the underlying healthcare needs affecting individuals and populations. Healthcare access and quality are some of the determinants affected by the issue. When a nursing shortage occurs, some individuals are disproportionately limited from accessing the required healthcare services (Udod, 2023). Additionally, the existing workloads, work stress, and burnouts translate into compromised quality of services which translate into poor quality of life and occurrence of preventable healthcare issues. Strategies applied in handling the issue: My organization is committed to delivering timely and high-quality services by addressing several issues affecting service delivery. Healthcare professionals embrace technology to ensure that service delivery is efficient and coordinated when delivering healthcare services. Secondly, the organization embraces evidence-based strategies in handling patient needs, ensuring that the professionals apply the best approaches for handling needs (Chervoni-Knapp, 2022). Moreover, the organization emphasizes preventive services to minimize the burden of disease and reduce the risk of injury or preventable health issues and complications that result in nursing shortages, stress, and burnout.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the nursing shortage is a serious healthcare and public health issue that requires inputs and strategies to attain the best healthcare outcomes. The issue arises from the growing burden of disease, the aging nursing professionals, limited opportunities for training more nurses, and the current status of the disease burden. Various organizations have applied strategies to handle the issue and improve healthcare service delivery. One such strategies is embracing healthcare technologies such as electronic health records and data management systems to address the underlying issues and ensure that resources and opportunities are optimal. Since requires collaborative approaches, healthcare organizations and stakeholders must coordinate, collaborate, and mobilize resources to address the issue and enhance smooth, efficient, and cost-effective approaches for handling the healthcare service delivery. If you were to ask 10 people what they believe to be the most significant issue facing healthcare today, you might get 10 different answers. Escalating costs? Regulation? Technology disruption? Social Determinant such as environment/community, education, access/quality to healthcare?
These and many other topics are worthy of discussion. Not surprisingly, much has been said in the research, within the profession, and in the news about these topics. Whether they are issues of finance, quality, workload, or outcomes, there is no shortage of changes to be addressed.
In this Discussion, you examine a national healthcare issue and consider how that issue may impact your work setting. You also analyze how your organization has responded to this issue. Innovations For Nurse Retention in Addressing The Nursing Shortage Essay

I wanted to let you know how I grade discussions in this course so that you will be clear about what I expect. Simply put, I use the rubric in order to make sure I am consistent across all courses. I often have students tell me that other instructors did not deduct for certain things, so I want to clarify how I grade and what my expectations are. Of course, in discussion I look to make sure you cover the items that are supposed to be discussed, that you utilize APA formatting and that in general your post is easy to read/understand. In your Initial Discussion Post I expect you to include an introductory paragraph with a purpose statement. Subsequently you would include the “body” of the post including the requisites of the discussion post, then a summary/conclusion. References are to be formatted according to APA (I know that these get messed with some when posting, so no worries there).
At least 3 Level 1 headings are to be used in your Initial Discussion Post (don’t be surprised if there are deductions made if you have not included them).
before Day 3 by 10:00 PM CST. Points are deducted for failing to meet this guideline – in other words you will be marked late. You are also required to respond to 2 of your fellow classmates’ Initial Posts.
Discussions cannot be made up. That is a university policy, not mine. So, if you miss a discussion, I usually advise that it’s not beneficial for you to try to “make it up” as there is no allowance for that, so it’s best to save your time and use it on something that will contribute to your success in the course, such as working on your assignment and/or working on your next discussion.

Just wanting to clarify something.
You do not need to or really shouldn’t use a Level 1 heading titled “Introduction”. It is standard that everyone assumes your first paragraph is indeed the Introduction…..
