Informatics nurses can effect change through communication, change management, collaboration, and education (Tyler, 2019). A group of nurses was chosen and under the leadership of Nurse informaticists they underwent intensive training. These nurses earned themselves the title of super users. With IT department in conjunction with NI and the super users the initiation and implementation of electronic documentation went smoothly. It took at least six months for everyone to be comfortable and verbalize confidence in performing their daily tasks. To date, the NI help, staff, identify their own level of comfort with technology as some new hires must undergo training and orientation to be acclimated to the organization policy and procedures and documentation protocols. Although NI does not perform direct patient care, her work is recognized by everyone in the hospital, she is readily available, she empowers staff and helps them unleash the power of technology embedded in each one of them. NI participates in clinical meetings and huddles that discuss patient care and improvements of the organization Interaction Between Nurse Informaticists and Other Specialists Discussion Essay. The huddles consist of different departmental leaders. In case of any changes with the systems, introduction of any new data or technological issue, NI, leadership team and IT coordinate to ensure that there is no disruption of the workflow while still protecting the integration of patient information. IT department is responsible for creating the workflows and maintenance of computers and devices. The organization has lots of external forces such as attorneys, independent forensic evaluators, external caseworkers, and other vendors who might request to access information for legal reasons given the nature of the population we serve. It is the responsibility of the NI to ensure that these external forces can only access what they need, this is achieved using secure passwords to access data. A strategy on how these interactions might be improved might include but not limited to communicating or interviewing the staff who will be utilizing the new technology/systems. This can be done before and after the introduction of changes to assess their success. Nurses are skilled in managing and communicating information and are always concerned with content quality. (ANA, 2015). NI should be able to communicate clearly, listen to other professionals, and be able to use her informatics knowledge and experience to assist others in using technology and data in their practice. For example being during this COVID-19 pandemic most of the external forces such as Attorneys, Evaluators, guardians, and caseworkers are not allowed in the facility, but communication is still important to evaluate the progress of the patients. NI must continuously ensure that staff members are able to use portable devices such as iPad to set up meetings (zoom) without compromising any aspect of care. According to (Bickford,2015) activities associated with information governance and the enhancement of user experiences dictate the understanding and application of information management, library science, and cognitive science by the informatics nurse. This calls for the NI to be a good communicator and listener Interaction Between Nurse Informaticists and Other Specialists Discussion Essay.
The impact continued evolution of Nursing informatics as a specialty might have on professional interaction and validation of data before it gets to be utilized in the organizations, working with other team members to ensure that the goal of safe and best patient outcome is achieved. Managing change is an important skill for the informatics nurse. Skills required to manage projects and manage change include communication, active listening, attention to detail, and organization (ANA, 2015) Interaction Between Nurse Informaticists and Other Specialists Discussion Essay.
