In my quest to understand the role of nurses in ensuring patient welfare and the general wellbeing of the society, I have done my research and agree with your statements. One of the important things to note in nursing practice is that the profession is undergoing evolution, which means that besides offering caring services, the modern nurse has other important roles. According to Sayers et al. (2015), one of the important roles of a lead nurse is being an educator, besides their roles in advocacy, research and a physician. However, just as mentioned in your statements, the nurse as an educator must have clinical skills as s/he is expected to lead his or her team and mentor them as they pursue their career. The team members learn to solve issues regarding patient care and also work with the lead nurse to integrate change in the clinical set up, which is attained through research where theories are studied, and may be integrated in one department (the nurse’s team) (Sayers et al., 2015). In my opinion, using a single department or team acts as a pilot study for the facility to ensure once the new techniques are embraced, there is the promotion of quality and efficacy in patient management. Having discussed the role of the lead nurse as an educator, I would also love to appreciate that you have noted that a skilled workforce is crucial in the optimization of opportunities through change, promoting a holistic workplace that is inclusive and offers young graduates the privilege to integrate their class work into practice.
