Journal of Medical Internet Research Assignment
Background of Nursing Practice Problem (one paragraph; no more than 250 words):
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients experience instances when the condition can get the lungs clogged with phlegm or damaged, affecting their quality of life and overall well-being. The main symptoms include coughing, tiredness, wheezing, and difficulty breathing. The condition has affected approximately 16 million adults in the United States, with many not knowing they have it (Yohannes, 2020). Hence, there is a need for the medical teams to identify effective and evidence-based interventions that will improve overall healthcare outcomes for COPD patients. In that case, the research at hand proposes the need to use pulmonary rehabilitation since the existing research suggests that it enhances muscle function and helps reduce dyspnea. Sample
(Number and characteristics of participants) |
The study used 17 participants, which is a significant number.
relatives (n = 2), COPD (n = 10), patient organization representative (n = 1) and health care givers (n = 4) |
Marklund et al. (2021) used two groups in the exploratory qualitative study. The main group incorporated 83 COPD patients. 43 were randomized to intervention group with three participants in every five units subjected to individual interviews. Also, through purposeful sampling, the authors ensure that at least a male or a female was obtained from every primary health unit.
|
The study aimed at recruiting 490 participants to serve in the intervention and control groups subjected to an 8-week model. The model’s effectiveness will be assessed using EQ-5D-5L changes, indirect costs, and direct healthcare cost changes. | The researchers used 24 participants, 12 of whom will be used in the intervention and control group since it is the recommended sample size for pilot studies.

|
The researchers used statistical analyses using IBM SPSS Statistics version 24.0 (IBM Corporation with 0.05 set as the significant level.
The authors also used descriptive statistics for sample description, while the Shapiro-Wilk test was used to explore the data normality.
Also, chi-squared tests, Mann-Whitney U tests, and independent t-tests to compare general clinical characteristics, anthropometric, and sociodemographic among the selected group. |
Outcomes/key findings of the study and implications for nursing practice (Summary of study results) | According to this study’s co-creators, an eHealth tool is a useful digital addition to the current medical resources. That is because the eHealth tool’s content features, technical, and design were subject to intense demand. | The primary findings represented the experiences of research participants in the areas of unclear effect, prerequisites for use, and approaching capability. They also showed that motivation, ease of use of IT tools, and overall literacy all appeared to impact using an electronic healthcare tool over the years. | The acceptance of alternative pulmonary rehabilitation approaches will depend on the ability to show equivalent or superior clinical results to those of conventional pulmonary rehabilitation programs that may be administered economically. | According to the study, community-based pulmonary rehabilitation may be helpful for those with mild-to-moderate AECOPD. |
Recommendations of the researcher | The results of this study may aid in the future creation of innovative eHealth solutions that are more user-friendly and tailored to the real needs that potential users have expressed in the study. | The authors recommend that time may be crucial in assessing the advantages of eHealth technologies that modify self-management techniques through behavioral changes. | The data from this experiment will support future recommendations and legislative choices about pulmonary rehabilitation. If the study is successful, it will significantly impact how pulmonary rehabilitation services are provided globally in the future. It will also allow more patient options and possibilities for program customization. | Community-based pulmonary rehabilitation is recommended since there were notable improvements in the quadriceps muscle strength, condition’s impact, vital signs, and other symptoms since no adverse effects were associated with the intervention. |
Explain how this article supports your proposed PICO(T) question. | The article projects the effectiveness of e-health tools in increasing the effectiveness of pulmonary rehabilitation in terms of access. For instance, the study participants accepted that using an eHealth tool to help them take charge of treating the illness is necessary, but they also need evidence-based guidance and assistance. Journal of Medical Internet Research Assignment | The article will be crucial to the PICO question since it proposes using e-health tools to enhance pulmonary rehabilitation. | The research is ongoing, proving that research on pulmonary rehabilitation is crucial and that medical researchers should better assess ways to enhance access to COPD patients. | The article is necessary since it also supports that pulmonary rehabilitation is an effective intervention for COPD patients. |

The purpose of this assignment is to refine the PICOT question you developed in the discussion forum this week and begin evaluating literature that you will use in subsequent weeks to write your research paper. Journal of Medical Internet Research Assignment
Use the “Literature Evaluation Table” to complete this assignment. Prior to starting the “Literature Evaluation Table,” complete the following:
Review the feedback you have received in the discussion forum related to your PICOT question so far. Make any necessary edits to your PICOT question.
Conduct a literature search to locate four research articles focused on your selected nursing practice problem of interest. Note: This literature search should include two quantitative and two qualitative, peer-reviewed, primary research articles to support your nursing practice problem. A mixed methods article can qualify towards meeting a qualitative or quantitative methodology. The two articles identified in Topic 1 DQ 2 can be used should you still find them relevant to your PICOT question.
Articles must be published within the past 5 years, appropriate for the assignment criteria, and relevant to nursing practice. Journal of Medical Internet Research Assignment
The PICOT question and four peer-reviewed research articles you chose will be utilized for subsequent assignments.
Note: For best search results, do not include the words qualitative and quantitative in your search terms. Do include words that narrow or broaden your main topic. For example: Search for diabetes and pediatric and dialysis. To determine what research design was used in the articles the search produced, review the abstract and the methods section of the article. The author will provide a description of data collection using qualitative or quantitative methods. Systematic reviews, literature reviews, and metanalysis articles are good resources and provide a strong level of evidence but are not considered primary research articles. Therefore, they should not be included in this assignment. Journal of Medical Internet Research Assignment
While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
