Week 1 Discussion
Walden University Mission and Vision
Walden University offers a multitude of healthcare-related programs including Master of Science in Nursing. The university strives to produce graduates that are equipped with the necessary skills, abilities, and knowledge in their individual fields and professions. This vision is driven by the overall mission to create graduates who are able to use their acquired knowledge to impact their professions and society. Drawing from this, the professional and practice goal of mastering specific skills and knowledge is motivated by this goal. I acknowledge that by focusing on perfecting specific skills at a time I will gradually become an all-round nursing practitioner Journal Of Nursing Education Discussion.
My Professional Development Plan and Important Teams
I aspire to pursue the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program at Walden University. During my time pursuing this program I will be guided by one unique goal; to master specific skills in nursing for example critical thinking in my day-to-day interaction with patients and peers. I draw inspiration from Fowler, Conner and Smith (2018) who have mentioned that honing specific skills in nursing leads to creative and well-informed problem-solving. I must mention that although I will be executing a handful of tasks in my capacity as a nurse such as IV fluid administration, health records maintenance, and monitoring patient vital signs, I recognize the importance of continuous improvement and specialization in particular areas. Over time, these specialized skills will be resourceful in decision-making and influencing health outcomes for patients. To hone my skills in specific areas in nursing does not imply that others will be ignored. In fact, working towards this professional goal will lead me to actively participate in the evaluation of cost-effective healthcare strategies Journal Of Nursing Education Discussion.
The successful completion of my Master of Science in Nursing will rely on the collaborations and teams I will work with through the course and later in my practice as a registered nurse. At Walden University, the individual professors, doctors, and other professionals in nursing will aid in my knowledge and skills acquisition. Alongside these will be my fellow classmates who will work hand in hand on different group tasks, discussions, and consultations as we aim to attain our aspired Master of Science in Nursing degrees. A key aspect of my professional development plan is to develop vital skills necessary for a professional nurse. N the course of my studies as a Master of Science in Nursing at Walden University, I will constantly critique existing evidence-based literature (Walden University, n.d)Journal Of Nursing Education Discussion. The realization of the set goals will rely on how well literature is consulted and applied in practice.
Importance of Networking
Nursing is a profession that requires high-level networking to aid nurses to form relationships with their peers in the industry (Berthelsen, Vamosi & Martinsen, 2020). The first one is the continuous liaison and communication with nursing practitioners in one’s own healthcare organization and others which includes academic institutions such as colleges and universities of nursing. Forming networks in a nursing profession brings nurses in close contact with professionals in different capacities and this increases their engagement in practice. Fowler, Conner and Smith (2018) added that through networking, countless opportunities are created and these go a long way in enhancing communication among nurses and patients. In the end, nursing care leads to gradual improvement in nursing care practice Journal Of Nursing Education Discussion.

Discussion: Networking Opportunities This week, you begin to lay the foundation for your academic and professional success. Your efforts begin with a vision, which includes your own definition of success. Your vision may vary from those of your colleagues, but this does not mean you have to take these first steps alone. Walden University and the College of Nursing also have a vision and mission, which include helping you to make your own vision a reality. Members of your new academic community, such as faculty, support teams, and fellow students, can also be helpful. Current practitioners and other members of the professional community can also help you to clarify your vision. Journal Of Nursing Education Discussion
This Week’s Discussion asks you to consider how the Walden mission and vision as well as the College of Nursing’s mission and vision apply to your professional and academic goals. You will also begin to identify individuals and teams who can help you along the way as you begin designing the “blueprintâ€â€”your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan—that will guide you toward your own vision for academic and professional success. Finally, you will explain the importance of networking and how it can help you achieve your professional and academic goals. Note: Unless otherwise noted, initial postings to Discussions are due on or before Day 3, and response postings are due on or before Day 6. You are required to participate in the Discussion on at least three different days (a different day for main post and each response). It is important to adhere to the weekly time frame to allow others ample time to respond to your posting. In addition, you are expected to respond to questions directed toward your own initial posting in a timely manner.
To Prepare: Review the Walden and College of Nursing mission and vision statements, Walden’s goals and University Outcomes, and the MSN Program Learning Outcomes presented in this Week’s Learning Resources. Reflect on your professional and academic goals as they relate to your program/specialization. Consider how the information in these resources fit with your own goals and to your becoming a scholar-practitioner. Also consider academic and professional individuals and teams with whom you may collaborate in support of your efforts as a student at the university and as a professional within your organization and career. Consider the importance of networking and how it may help you achieve your professional and academic goals Journal Of Nursing Education Discussion
