One insight from the first article by Chan et al., (2023) is that transformational leadership is essential in facilitating knowledge translation across healthcare settings. Transformational leaders inspire and motivate their teams to focus on teamwork as opposed to individual interests which helps to foster a shared vision and purpose-driven leadership. An example of this behavior can be attributed to a nurse leader who actively engages their team in understanding the importance of evidence-based practice and knowledge translation, encouraging collaboration and innovation in implementing new practices. Such leaders often create an environment where staff feel empowered to contribute ideas and are motivated to embrace change for the betterment of patient care. For instance, patient falls is a major challenge that is associated with negative patient outcomes such as increased length of hospital stay as well as increased cost of healthcare. In my experience, I’ve observed a nurse leader who applies transformational leadership qualities to promote evidence-based practice and knowledge translation. In addition, she actively sought input from nurses and other healthcare professionals which created a forum for discussion and collaboration.
