The last step in a research study is disseminating the results so others can learn from them. Health related topics are the most commonly disseminated research topics (Ashcraft et al., 2020). Oral presentations can occur while the study is taking place which allows the audience to ask questions and allows interaction with individuals who are interested in the topic. Written reports can be published in journals or dissertations which allows a world-wide audience to have access to the results. The researchers must take into account who the audience will be. Will it be healthcare providers or the layperson? The target audience helps determine how the information is presented (Polit et al., 2021). In my particular research study, my target audience would be emergency care physicians and nurses, hospital administrators, hospital management and the psychiatrists working in the area or within the health network. In order to implement psychiatric telemedicine consults in the emergency department all these groups of individuals would have to be on board. Presenting them with clear concise research and statistical analyses would be the most effective way to show this method would be an asset to providing the best patient care. Written information would be sent to all the stakeholders involved but I would preferably like to have a presentation for all the medical providers to participate in so there could be an interactive discussion. It does not matter how convincing the research data is – if this information is not in the hands of the people who can implement change then the data means nothing. I can honestly say I never thought much about how research would impact me as a nurse practitioner in the future, but after taking this course I realize it is a fundamental building block on implementing the most effective methods of patient care. I would find it very interesting and a great learning opportunity to participate in a research study later on in my career.
