You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.
Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.Nursing-family Health Assessment Essay

Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.

The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.

This assessment was conducted after interviewing the Nelson family using Gordon’s functional health pattern. Marjorie Gordon developed a method to be used by nurses in the nursing process to provide a comprehensive nursing assessment. It includes eleven principles for the collection of data and helps the nurse identify two or more wellness nursing diagnoses. It is a systematic and standardized approach to data collection (“functional health” n.d.). The Nelson family includes a husband and wife named Gerad age 31, Kelsey age 29, and their two daughters Elliot age 4, and Lucy age 2. I first met Kelsey at work where she is also a critical care nurse with a young family  Nursing-family Health Assessment Essay
Their elimination patterns are normal with the usual once a day regimen and they are big water drinkers. The girls are never without their water bottles and Gerad who works out in the sun all day at one of the deserts biggest golf courses makes it a point to stay hydrated. Lucy seems to get the most intake of fiber as she enjoys lots of fruits throughout the day.
The Nelson’s are a very active family. Kelsey works out at least 4 times per week, Gerad hits the gym 5 times a week and the girls are very active during playtime. Gerad will soon coach Ellie’s soccer team in the next coming months.
Kelsey and Gerad both obtained their bachelor’s degrees from Minnesota State which is where they met. Kelsey learns best by visual and tactile so in other words she stated she learns best by seeing it then actually doing it. The girls are both on track for their age hitting all of their milestones appropriately, Gerad and Kelsey both see the eye doctor yearly for vision screens; Kelsey wears contacts or eyeglasses. The girls have not had any issues with their vision but Lucy has had several ear infections and required Eustachian tubes at the age of 18 months.Nursing-family Health Assessment Essay

Family Health Assessment
Family is the basic unit of society. A family is a set of interacting individuals related by blood, marriage, cohabitation, or adoption who interdependently perform relevant functions by fulfilling expected roles. Health practices are those activities performed by individuals or families as a whole to promote health and prevent diseases. The relationship between members of family influences the understanding of behavior, which is demonstrated in family’s structural, functional, communicational, and developmental patterns (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2003; Bonell et al., 2003).Within families, children and adults are nurtured and taught about health values by word and by example, and it is within families that…show more content…

The nutritional-metabolic pattern depicts characteristics of the family’s typical food and fluid consumption and metabolism (Gordon, 2007). In this particular family, all members follow a well balanced diet. They prefer homely food which is freshly prepared. They are very particular to include traditional Indian food in their daily diet. Family health assessment is a process of getting information from the family about health promotion and disease-prevention activities. Family assessment includes nurse’s perceptions about family constitution, norms, standards, theoretical knowledge, and communication abilities. Marjorie Gordon (1987) proposed eleven functional health patterns as a guide for establishing a comprehensive nursing data base. These functional health patterns (2007) help organize basic family assessment information (Friedman et al., 2003) (Edelman & Mandle, 2010, p. 173-177).Eleven health functions are as follows. Health perception and / or health management pattern, nutritional pattern, elimination pattern, activity/exercise pattern, cognitive/perceptual pattern, sleep/rest pattern, self-perception and self-concept pattern, role/relationship pattern, sexuality/reproductive pattern, coping/stress tolerance pattern, and value/belief.
