Obviously, looking globally, environment and health needs differ around the globe and from country to country. With that said, infections disease, such as the Covid Pandemic, although treated differently globally, needed to be identified and tracked worldwide. “Global health indicators highlight the tremendous disparities in health status within a given population or between developing and developed countries.” (Larson & Mercer, 2004, p. 1200).

The Leading Health Indicators identified by leading cause of death in North Carolina, where I live, identified ( in 2920) the top 4 as cancer, heart disease, accidents, and lower respiratory track infection. North Carolina also identified the top four areas of focus in 2020 as Tobacco Use, Nutrition and Physical Activity, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Substance Abuse. To me personally tobacco use and nutrition and physical activity hit home. I identify with and understand the impact smoking has on my health and life and would love to target that area to improve my health and life. Nutrition is paramount in my life and my family and I maintain a strict vegan lifestyle for both health and ethical reasons. Physical Activity is also a challenge for me that I would like to tackle. Working twelve hours weekend shifts definitely take a toll on my motivation in that regard. I find it interesting that “Healthy North Carolina 2030” makes a statement about public health education and personnel responsibility that is excellent.
