The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) has been a topic of debate between Republicans and Democrats since its enactment in March 2010. The law’s primary goals are to make insurance available to more people by providing consumers with subsidies, also known as premium tax credits, that lower costs for low-income households. It expands the Medicaid program to cover all adults with low income, and it supports innovative medical care delivery to help lower healthcare costs (ASPA, 2022). The Republican Party opposes the ACA because they do not believe in government involvement in healthcare, many people have to pay higher premiums and rising taxes, and businesses are cutting employee hours to avoid providing free healthcare (Ronald, 2019). To help revise the ACA, Senator Mark Warner announced a bill to amend the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to reduce healthcare costs and expand healthcare coverage to more Americans. The bill is titled “Health Care Improvement Act of 2021” and was introduced in Senate on February 22, 2021 (Warner, 2021). Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act Essay

The bill has my support as it would lower costs for working families by ensuring no individual or family pays more than 8.5 percent of their income for health insurance. It would also authorize the federal government to negotiate prescription drug prices with pharmaceutical companies. It would expand Medicaid eligibility for new moms by providing new mothers with up to 12 months of postpartum Medicaid eligibility. It has my support because it would fix the Area Wage Index and provide equal funding to rural healthcare providers (Newsroom,2021). Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act Essay The new bill S.352, will improve the social determinants of health in seniors 65 and older, women, and those with preexisting conditions. It will continue to build on the current ACA standard to eliminate health disparities, explained above. Americans oppose the new bill due to the original negative view of the ACA. Partisanship is the primary reason why Americans oppose the ACA. I would address the opposing party by informing the American people about the ACA’s benefits to millions of Americans. I would make correct information reach people through social media, interviews, podcasts, and television ads (Rovner,2017). Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act Essay
