Teaching Philosophy

Educators must acknowledge that every student has unique attributes when interacting with students. That is because these students hail from different backgrounds that embrace different values and beliefs that may greatly impact their learning and thinking. Some functional skills that portray differences among students include self-regulation, cognitive flexibility, and inhibitory controls. Such acknowledgment is essential since it helps educators research their students’ learning abilities and implement effective teaching strategies and learning styles to benefit them and balance their differences. In such a case, educators must establish a positive educator-learner relationship to actively support the learners’ skills development to avoid limiting learning. Hence, active learning gives learners a favourable learning setting to seek help whenever needed. Personal Philosophy Of Teaching Assignment Discussion

Main Goals and Objective as an Instructor

My teaching philosophy revolves around creating a positive environment that increases supervised exploration. The most effective and beneficial learning occurs in instances that project realism and meaningfulness. Therefore my main goal is to ensure that the learners can benefit from the learning sessions and later apply the lessons learned in a practice site. For instance, the issue of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) is currently experienced by most hospitals globally and in the United States because of poor skills and knowledge among healthcare professionals in following different guidelines and protocols. Hence, engaging the learners actively during the teaching sessions will help them utilize the learned skills and knowledge during nursing practice. That is because they will have acknowledged the need to adhere to the guidelines and protocols when dealing with HAIs and other healthcare services. In such a case, the learners must be involved in one-on-one and small-group teaching within the relevant clinical setting Personal Philosophy Of Teaching Assignment Discussion.

The main reason for incorporating the relevant setting is that it helps learners incorporate their knowledge within the right framework and resonate emotionally with the learning process. Generally, learning within a clinical environment requires educators to balance realism and safety, considering that the learners are not fully familiar with the environment. Realism plays a crucial role in the learners’ future nursing practice, where the learners transfer the skills and knowledge gained in a real clinical environment. However, the safety characteristic revolves around teaching the learners to uphold ethical standards that conform with healthcare organizations’ practice standards and culture to avoid endangering the patient’s health and life. Hence, as the learners continue learning about the attitudes and standard principles that healthcare professionals need to adopt to prevent HAIs, they must acknowledge the right and wrong activities to prevent engaging them even in the future.

Anticipated or Actual Teaching Methods and Strategies

There are various learning methods and strategies that educators can incorporate into teaching. One anticipated method is experiential learning, which encourages students to integrate creativity (Morris, 2019). Generally, through experiential learning, the learners will take their mistakes positively and learn from them, including its ability to foster reflective thinking. Also, experiential learning will prepare students more for future experiences. For instance, an ethical dilemma requires nurses to think critically and formulate effective solutions. Hence, if the learners encounter ethical issues in the future, there will be creative enough to solve the ethical puzzles. The main strategy to steer the method’s effectiveness is through reflective learning on the lessons learned to assess the knowledge level on the topics. I would also engage in differentiated learning since the class will comprise differently-abled students to ensure that I balance all the students and handle the learners sensitively to prevent some learners from feeling embarrassed (Kalokerinos et al., 2019)Personal Philosophy Of Teaching Assignment Discussion. The main strategy to make differentiated learning successful is incorporating different learning materials, including handouts and audiovisual delivery methods.

Teaching Style Justification

The main reason why the experiential and differentiated learning styles will be effective is that they incorporate culturally diverse approaches and will integrate culturally competent educators. As a result, the learners will gain a sense of belonging, considering that they will integrate with educators that acknowledge their cultural values and beliefs, thus preventing discrimination feeling thus achieving the overall teaching presentation goals.

How the Teaching Style helps Student Learning

The main reason for selecting both experiential and differentiated learning styles is that reliance on a single teaching style may not cover the needs of the students considering their uniqueness. Hence, when experiential instills creativity in the learners, the differential learning style will help the educator ensure that all learners benefit by acquiring the required knowledge and skills regardless of their uniqueness Personal Philosophy Of Teaching Assignment Discussion.

The Discussed Teaching Practices and Principles Reflection

My teaching philosophy emphasizes ensuring learners are exposed to realistic and meaningful environments. Learners must interact with the real environment that portrays the actual picture that the students will expect, including embracing cultural diversity. That is why through the experiential learning method, as an educator, there will be a high possibility of helping the learners acknowledge various ways to engage creativity when faced with different healthcare issues that may result in a dilemma since the learners will greatly manage to think logically and critically before making any decision during practice. Also, differentiated learning is crucial since it helps meet my philosophy of teaching meaningfulness goal by ensuring that learners will extend the sense of belonging even to the patients they will be attending in future nursing practice, thus increasing patient safety and positive health outcomes in the real practice setting.

New Knowledge Through the Course

The new knowledge gained from the course is the hard work and commitment educators exhibit when dealing with learners to strike a balance among all learners. That is despite the complexities that come with teaching since the educator has to consider the unique characteristics the target learners have and plan accordingly. Consequently, I was unaware that coming up with a teaching plan needs to involve evidence-based research to acknowledge the existing learning styles and appropriate strategies that complement these learning styles. Hence, in the future, if I am an educator, I will make sure that before creating the teaching plan and grading rubric, I will always assess the teaching methods and strategies’ effectiveness Personal Philosophy Of Teaching Assignment Discussion.

What Stood Out Over the Past 8 Weeks

The main factor that stood out is the acknowledgment that incorporating diverse teaching staff is the best way to handle the unique learners’ attributes. As Kalokerinos et al. (2019) accentuate, the diverse teaching staff is an advantage and a challenge when dealing with learners. The advantage is that the learners will learn to accommodate other learners from different cultures and ethnicities. That way, the educator is assured that once the learners step into the nursing practice setting, they will utilize their diverse cultural knowledge and skills in associating with other healthcare professionals and patients, thus improving their contribution to positive healthcare services and patient outcomes.

Teaching Philosophy Evaluation

When evaluating my original teaching philosophy, I can attest that the course has significantly contributed to perfecting it since we began the course. That is because I have identified various issues, such as integrating realism and ethical consideration, to the learners since these two act as the backbone of the effective preparation of nursing learners before they can interact with real nursing practice environments. Hence, to ensure that I engage effective educator-learner relationship, I will ensure that all students feel a sense of belonging, complementing the differentiated learning style. Also, by realizing that cultural factors affect how educators disseminate their knowledge and skills to learners, I will always uphold cultural sensitivity to ensure no learner feels left behind. I also appreciate the tutor’s effort the support during the course Personal Philosophy Of Teaching Assignment Discussion.
