EKG Lead Placement and Interpretation– since nurses are often the first responders to cardiac arrests that happen in the hospital, Tahboub & Yılmaz (2019) emphasize that they need to master basic skills on how to perform resuscitation.  I look forward to improving my ability to recognize basic rhythms in an EKG to be able to monitor and make clinical decisions regarding patient care. I particularly look forward to improving my ability to perform a precordial lead placement using the clavicular method and angle of Louis method.

Suturing– Mackay-Wiggan, Ratner & Sambandan (2015) observe that, most patients present in the EDs or primary care settings with wounds that require suturing.  I look forward to improving my suturing skills using the synthetic, absorbable, monofilament, non-absorbable, and multifilament sutures and to do a purse-string suture.

Subungual Hematoma Evacuation-although not a common occurrence, some patients present with nail bed injuries that develop bleeding underneath (Pingel & McDowell, 2020). I look forward to improving my physical assessment skills when assessing such a patient for nail discoloration and pain. I hope to improve my skills in performing an evacuation using a needle as well as handheld electrocautery. Practicum Experience Plan Essay.

ü  By the end of the semester, I want to learn how to remove a foreign corneal body using the simple irrigation with a moist cotton swab, and the ophthalmic corneal burr method.
