Personal Goals

This being the last semester, I am looking forward to completing the program successfully. I have various personal goals that I intend to achieve this semester. Primarily I intend to improve my assessment skills and lab interpretations. These competencies will enable me to assess patients by collecting their medical history and interpret the results of laboratory tests, which are part of the diagnosis process. Additionally, I look forward to developing an appropriate and differential diagnoses. Such diagnosis will help me to rule out mental conditions with overlapping clinical symptoms. Settings and Populations

I have been working in the outpatient setting in the past where I treatpatients of all age brackets since my clinical site is a family practice. I was preferring a rotation inpatient, but unfortunately, that was not possible.Just like last semester, this semesterI will be working outpatient in the same clinicwith the same preceptor. I want to work in the outpatient in the future, so working in this setting now provides me with the required skills and experience.

My Goals as a PMHNP

In addition to my personal goals, I have some goals as a PMHNP. My primary goal is to provide psychiatric care to the underserved population. People with mental issues in this population lack the required healthcare services. My desire to serve this patient population is driving me to pursue my doctoral degree in the future.

Adequately Developed Skills

I have developed some skills adequately during the course. First, I have developed the ability to form a good rapport with my patients and make them feel comfortable interacting with me whether on the phone or in person. A good rapport is key when dealing with patients with mental issues. Such patients are willing to open up and share their problems if they have a good relationship with the care provider. Additionally, I developed good communication skills. As a result, I can communicate with patients comfortably using both verbal and non-verbal communication during therapeutic sessions. Finally, I developed attentive listening skills. Skills that I Plan to Improve this Semester

I intend to improve my time management skills in the course of this semester. I am planning to run overtime because I have a difficult time talking to patients and documenting at the same time. I am sure I will get better as time goes on and I start to work in the field seeing patients on a full-time basis. Additionally, I will ensure that I complete a particular task within the scheduled timeframe to avoid pilling up work.

My Additional Thoughts, Concerns, or Worries

My concerns are my fate after completing the program of study and seat for the boards. I am worried that I will not be able to see patients on my own without the help of a preceptor. This will be the case even though I currently complete the visits by myself at clinical with minimal assistance from my preceptor.
