Welcome to the clinical practice experience (CPE) for this course. The CPE for the Master of Science in Nursing program core courses consists of a variety of semi-structured activities. By completing all the activities and evidence listed within this document, and earning a grade of “Competent,” you will earn 25 indirect CPE hours for this course.
CPE Objective:
In the CPE for this course, you will gather and analyze perspectives regarding value-based nursing care by experiencing the role of a nurse quality manager responsible for monitoring, reporting, and ensuring safe and quality patient care.
In this CPE, you will experience the role of a graduate degree–prepared nurse in two phases: Quality Outcomes in a Culture of Value-Based Nursing Care Discussion
● Phase 1: Create a nurse quality manager position.
● Phase 2: Complete a value-based care readiness assessment.

Gather and Reflect
• Search online sources (such as LinkedIn Jobs or other career search engines) for information on the qualifications and responsibilities of healthcare quality managers and nurse quality managers.
• Search LinkedIn Jobs (or other career search engines) for related titles, salaries, and forecasts for these positions.
o Identify ten responsibilities needed for a quality management position.
1. Knowledge about performance measures and how they can be evaluated.
2. Experience in using any of the quality management strategies such as six sigma or total quality management (TQM) and applying them
3. Educating and training staff about quality management
4. Applying transformational leadership principles to communicate with staff
5. Using effective two-way communication to get tasks done as per the quality requirements
6. Performing performance evaluation for employees such as every quarter
7. Identifying the strengths and weaknesses of employees and deploying accordingly

o In the right column, identify the domain and competency that best align to the responsibility.

• Create a position description for a nurse quality manager or coordinator, using the information gathered on the role and responsibilities of a nurse quality manager.
The nurse quality coordinator will be a professional with vast experience in nursing who has the knowledge and experience desired about the quality of nursing care that needs to be offered. He or she should have at least master’s degree in nursing in any specialty but preferable FNP since this is care across the lifespan. They must be culturally competent and possess transformational leadership traits of empowering and motivating employees to deliver their best.
o Use the “Nurse Quality Position Description” template to create this position description.
• Schedule a meeting with a healthcare quality professional to review the position description you created.
• Ask for the professional’s opinions and suggestions regarding the information in the position description you created.

• Meet with the nurse quality manager (or the individual responsible for quality) and nursing professionals to gather their perspectives on the role of nurses in supporting a culture of value-based care.
o This meeting can be with the healthcare quality professional you met with during Phase 1 of your CPE.
o If the organization has already implemented value-based care, gather information on the processes used and what the organization learned during the process.

• Meet with the nurse quality manager (or equivalent quality role such as a nurse leader or organizational interprofessional) to complete the “Value-Based Nursing Care Readiness Assessment.”
o It is recommended to meet with the same person initially interviewed and any additional professionals if needed.
• Write an interpretation of the organization’s level of readiness based on the “Value-Based Nursing Care Readiness Assessment” results.
• Collaborate with the nurse quality manager and nurse leaders to review the findings from the “Value-Based Nursing Care Readiness Assessment” and strategically plan for actions that must be completed to ensure readiness.
• Write five recommended action items that must be completed prior to implementing VBC.
o If the organization has implemented value-based care, complete the five action items from a retrospective viewpoint.

INTRODUCTION
To fulfill the clinical practice experience (CPE) requirements for this course, you will complete the attached “Clinical Practice Experience (CPE) Record.†You will need to electronically sign and date the record. Finally, you must upload the “CPE Record†as a separate attachment and the required deliverables from that record to your e-portfolio. You should complete this task and the “CPE Record†before submitting AXM1 Task 1
REQUIREMENTS
Your submission must be your original work. No more than a combined total of 30% of a submission can be directly quoted or closely paraphrased from sources, even if cited correctly. Use the report provided when submitting your task as a guide.
You must use the rubric to direct the creation of your submission because it provides detailed criteria that will be used to evaluate your work. Each requirement below may be evaluated by more than one rubric aspect. The rubric aspect titles may contain hyperlinks to relevant portions of the course.
